Weekly Update  February 28 2021

Last week's meeting

We were very pleased to welcome Alderman Robin Rue Simmons -  Evanston Reparations Program.  The alderman shared what drives her commitment to affordable housing and equity and gave a shout out for how RYLA provided early opportunities to grow as a young leader.  Robin shared details how Evanston’s reparation project—the nation’s first local reparations program – will benefit African Americans in recognition of the persistent effects of slavery and the war on drugs.

Thank you Susan Fisher for facilitating the meeting and managing the Q & A. We welcomed over 25 guests of friends and fellow Rotary members! We do have a ZOOM recording of the event and hope to post on our website shortly.
This week's meeting - Wednesday evening event
As an excellent follow up to Ald. Robin Rue Simmons presentation, the founder of the Shorefront Legacy Center, Dino Robinson, will give us a virtual tour of the Shorefront Legacy Center and discuss black history in the North Shore.  Meeting will begin at 6:30 pm.

Other News:

  • The March Board meeting is scheduled for TUESDAY evening this month.  March 9nd at 5pm.
  • From the Wilmette Woman's Club:  Community Caretakers Needed – Help the vulnerable in our community!
As you know, it takes a village to care for one another, and we’re here to do just that. While we’re all eagerly awaiting our place in line for the COVID-19 vaccine, we could really use your help with caring for our vulnerable neighbors. With technology being the primary method to secure a COVID-19 vaccine, some of our most vulnerable may not have the technological ability to schedule a much-needed vaccination appointment. To help these people, the Woman's Club of Wilmette is partnering with the Village of Wilmette to reach out to residents to provide information, assistance in scheduling appointments, and/or driving to a vaccination appointment. Bilingual skills are a plus! If you would like to help with any of these tasks, please email so you can sign-up to be added to the list of community caretakers.
We are requesting volunteers please sign up by March 1st.
If you know of any vulnerable neighbors that need help registering for the vaccine, or when the time comes, need transportation to their appointment, please email us at and we will match them with a community caretaker.
Let’s work together as we take care of one another during this time.
  • If club members have news to share, please send them to Ben Ivory for inclusion in the weekly bulletin!
