VISITING ROTARIANS:

Narayan Murarka thanked WHRC for its ongoing partnership with his club, the Barrington Breakfast Rotary Club, on the Guatemala mechanical cow project, as well as a new water distribution project.  The mechanical cow project provides machines that make milk out of soy beans.  Two new mechanical cows were recently installed that provide high protein and nutrient milk to children aged 1 – 5.  The milk is also used to fortify tortillas so the entire family gets additional protein.  The new water distribution project provides clean water to 350 families with poor water access.  Through a partnership with municipality plans are currently in place to lay pipes to distribute water.

PROGRAM:  Talei Thompson (Motivational Speaker) – Using Our Gifts

Talei is a motivational speaker who regularly presents to rotary clubs, schools, youth programs and the Black Star Project organization.  His message focuses on encouraging people to use their gifts and follow their dreams, reminding us we are never too young or too seasoned to dream.  Mark Zuckerberg was a teenager when he founded Facebook, whereas Colonel Sanders was 63 when he opened his first fried chicken restaurant!

Talei emphasized the following two points:

#1  Re-evaluate your inner circle – It is important to assess your friends and determine who are the pusher and who are the pullers.  Pushers push you towards the level that you’re trying to get to and motivate you to move forward.  Even people who are already extremely successful need pushers to move them forward.  Pullers to hold you back and question whether you’ll be able to achieve your dreams.

#2  Avoid doctor procrastination –Procrastination kills dreams.

Looking a two letters in the word "IT", Talei noted that:
I = Illegal – It should be illegal to dream and not act.
T = Take - Everyone needs to take their rightful place in history and we were all born to do something extraordinary.
