Program:  Jennifer Jenkins
Love fur Dogs

Joan O’Neill met Jennifer Jenkins in Choir at her Church and they have been friends since.  Joan introduced Jennifer to the club.
Jennifer has been speaking to Rotary Clubs for many years; she discussed a Bill that will be on the ballot this November that will give more rights to crime victims.

Jennifer was born and raised in Winnetka, lives in Northfield.  Is one of a handful of certified master groomers in the nation and was certified as such in 1985.  She opened Love Fur Dogs, which is a grooming salon and vocational school for grooming and is one of the only of its kind run by a certified educator.

Jennifer started out by discussing how dogs bring people together from all demographics, backgrounds, etc.  Jennifer and her husband decided to open a grooming shop and vocational school and were motivated to open their store partly by their disabled daughter who could not attend college and was pursuing a vocation of her own.

A major event that shaped Jennifer’s life was when Jennifer’s pregnant sister and her husband were murdered in 1990 in Winnetka.  In her sister’s final moments she drew a heart on the ground, which became the inspiration for the logo for “Love Fur Dogs”.

“Love Fur Dogs” is family owned and operated business in Glencoe.  Jennifer and her family have been showing dogs for many years and discussed how it has not only brought their family closer together but also provided positive inspiration for disabled persons.   “Love Fur Dogs” caters towards older, disabled, service and therapy dogs.  The vocational school, “Bishop Training Academy” was created as a resource for high functioning disabled people so they can learn to be a professional dog groomer.
