2011 Chicago Honoree – Carl Marinacci

Carl is a longtime supporter and the former Chairman of the Board for Fabretto - US. Before retiring, Carl was the Vice President of Amoco Corporation. Since then, he’s focused his efforts on raising awareness about Fabretto, its programs and services, and the Nicaragua children in need. Serving on the Board of Directors since 1993, Carl stepped down as Chairman of the Board in October 2010, yet continues to serve as Chairman Emeritus.

As an ambassador, advocate, and avid supporter, Carl has demonstrated an unwavering dedication to Fabretto’s mission, informing the public about how individuals can play an active part in ending the cycle of poverty in Nicaragua. He truly exemplifies Father Fabretto’s “corazón de oro” vision. Father Fabretto often proclaimed that those individuals who went above and beyond the call of duty to help the children of Nicaragua had “un corazón de oro,” a heart of gold.

About the Corazón de Oro Award
The vision of the foundation started in 1953 in Nicaragua by an Italian, Salesian missionary priest, Padre Rafael Maria Fabretto. During his decades of service to the children of Nicaragua, he called upon people from all walks of life and various socioeconomic classes to do what they could to help the children. He would proclaim that those who went above and beyond the call of duty to help the children had “un corazón de oro,” a heart of gold. The Corazón de Oro Award is presented to individuals who demonstrate this same commitment to helping Nicaragua’s children and who thereby help to keep our mission alive in the communities we serve.
