 1.  Former day job:
Wilmette Police Officer for 36 years, chief of police for 18 of those, retired July 2009.

2. My sponsors were:
Joyce Knauff and Heidi Voorhees.  Can't say 'no' to either of those women!

3.  Favorite book:
In 2010 the two books I've recommended most often have been "Collapse" (Jared Diamond) and "Game Change" (Heilemann and Halperin).  The first is about how environmental changes through history and around the globe have affected people (our speaker from Ecuador in August characterizeed this book as his "Bible") , the second about the last presidential primary season and election.

4.   During my year as club president, I was most proud of:

Where to start?  The club and board worked together on so much:
      *Donating funds to international projects in Peru, Honduras, Poland, India, Ethiopia, Dominican Republic, and Bosnia;
     *Awarding $13,000 in grants to 20 local social service organizations;
     *Hosting a GSE team from the Philippines;
     *Holding a Wilmette Harbor Rotary night at Second City, an event we called a FUNdraiser;
     * Holding a square dance/auction fundraiser, raising nearly $10,000;
     *Raising $16,500 through our holiday fruit and fish sale;
     *Members donating $17,000 to the Rotary Foundation for its international projects;
     *Sponsoring an ambassadorial scholar to work on her M.A. in International Policy and Politics in Spain; and
     *Hosting a 30 member Interact Club at New Trier.

5.  Most memorable moment in Rotary?
My first R.I. convention in Buenos Aires (2000).    My 17 year old son and I flew to Argentina the morning after his high school graduation.

6.  What do most people not know about me?
I am still considering employment after police work (though not in law enforcement).

7.   If I were in charge I'd mandate that the national pastime be:
Doing the greatest good for the greatest number, rather than for the greatest profit.  Another way of saying this is, I'd like to see our pastime be ''service above self''.
