Outgoing President - Frank Candioto
Frank Candioto will be remembered for many things as our 2020-2021 Club President. The following are just a few of these:

As the only president who has presided entirely over Zoom club meetings  (John Held did a few months of Zoom as well in early 2020), Frank maintained order, kept us on-time, made guests and speakers feel welcome, and always added some humorous comments to the mix.

Any member who did not attend the Zoom meetings, did so by choice, as Frank was diligent in sending two Zoom notices each week.

Frank kept members informed of all District, Wilmette Harbor Club and Winnetka Club events (and attended many of those Zoom meetings).

Frank attended meetings of committees and sub-groups (i.e. Fundraising, Finance, Community Service, Rotary After Dark)

Under his leadership, the club continued to demonstrate Service Above Self through many service projects

During this Rotary year, our club added six new members

We all thank Frank for his amazing persistence and creativity during the virtual necessities of 2020-2021.

June 30 Program- Coast Guard Auxilliary
Club member John Lenhard provided us with an overview of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, an active arm of the United States Coast Guard staffed by volunteers. John, an active member of the Auxiliary, reviewed the history of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and talked about the great variety of functions and volunteer opportunities within the organization. A primary mission is boating safety through water patrols, boat safety checks, and training for boaters. Go to their website, https://www.cgaux.org, for further information.

Clubs Scholarship Awards - 2021 (Part 2)
Last week you were informed about our 2021 Scholarship Awards to worthy students at New Trier, Regina Dominican and Loyola Academy  The following students were the recipients of these awards:

From New Trier High School, winners are Grace Jeon , Teagan Frye who will both  attend the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and twins Layal and Leen Alrez  who will pursue their college education locally at National Lewis University.

GRACE JEON’s high academic achievement and work ethic were supplemented by her love for the viola and volunteering via the Rotary Interact Club. TEAGAN FRYE thrived in all high honors classes while actively participated in the soccer team and sharing her love of the sport teaching it to young children.

LAYAL and LEEN ALREZ’s family moved from Syria four years ago after tragically losing their father and brother and recently transferred to New Trier. Both understand the importance role education plays in their future success and have demonstrated adaptability and perseverance as they transitioned between schools,
learning environments, a new country, and personal loss.

STEPHANIE OVALLE, graduating from Loyola Academy, similarly recognized that education is key to her future as evidenced by her long daily commute from Chicago. As the child of immigrants from Guatemala, her dedication to service is evident through her tutoring of children of refugees and her passion for immigration issues. As she will be attending the University of Illinois in the fall, Stephanie has been designated as the recipient of the 2021 Jack Lehman scholarship.

JACQUELINE FUENTES of Regina Dominican will be headed for the University of Iowa for her college education.  She was selected by her school counselors from among 75 graduates as an outstanding student meeting our awards requirement.
