CLUB UPDATES
ALL Club lunch and other face-to-face committee meetings are cancelled through April 24th. Our first priority is always safeguarding the health and well-being of our members and their families. The Club Officers are continuing to monitor the ever developing COVID-19 virus situation, and will again consider whether still further meetings cancellations may be prudent as April 24th approaches.

Your Board of Directors and Committee chairs have been doing trials using Zoom to meet as a group.  A few more trials will be done, then the membership will be included for a member-wide trial.  All you will need is a computer (or phone) with a camera and microphone, internet access, and a few simple instructions to learn how to join the trial meeting.

Service Above Self During COVID-19
As Rotarians, we need to remember that we should seek to provide  "Services Above Self” assistance to all (including your family) whenever possible while maintaining the COVID-19 "Stay in Home" guidelines.

For friends and acquaintances : make phone calls or send emails to those who might be lonely.  Send cute pictures of your pets or children.

For family:  All this "togetherness" that we are experiencing now could create some additional family stress.  Let your family know you love them and be patient with all the "togetherness" issues.  Try not to criticize family members or bring up past displeasures.  Take the time to really listen to their feelings about how they are coping.
Satellite Club Introduces New Service Project
In order for us to help out restaurants and those in need, the Satellite group started a fund to offer hot meals to those in need, by paying a restaurant to provide the meals. The Sisters of Charity convent, which is the home for elderly nuns in Wilmette, will be the first to receive such aid. They rely on food from local grocery stores that usually donate to them. Unfortunately, this aid was suspended. Our Satellite Club is currently having two meals for them provided by the Old Neighborhood Grill in Evanston.  They are hoping to keep it going for once a week more, if funds allow it. They will also stock their shelves and shop for them, as they don’t leave the convent and most of them are older retired nuns.

Donations may be made to the Wilmette Rotary Foundation, indicating it is for “Sister of Charity Project”.
NEW BLOOD DRIVE UPDATE
Vitalant, formerly LifeSource, will now be testing all blood donations for COVID-19 antibodies. Our next Blood Drive (Donation Date) is scheduled for June 26th, 2020, at (or about) Noon - Vitalant/Lifesource, 2436 Main Street, Evanston, Illinois 60202.  Please remind anyone who may be interested to make an appointment by calling 877-25-VITAL or going on-line at www.Vitalant.org.  The "Group Code" for The Rotary Club of Wilmette is WM-17.  This is a great way to get tested.

Member's Corner
Art Sutton was on a cruise ship that was docked outside of Miami.  He returned last Tuesday and reported that there were no problems on the ship, but getting home from Miami was challenging.

Debora Morris selected some exercises that most people can do at home to stay fit. She will be happy to email these to anyone who wants them. debora@pftl.net

Connect With Prospective Members
This may be a good time for you to contact prospective members who have expressed an interest in joining Rotary. Use this time as a chance to connect with potential members who may be feeling isolated right now. A simple phone call could increase their awareness of Rotary and help them feel connected. Tell the prospective member how Rotary clubs in the area are responding to the crisis and how they could help.
Never Too Late to Learn Something
If you are staying home and have time to acquire a new skill, remember the many professional and personal development courses available in the RI Learning Center. Online courses include options such as Mentoring Basics and Becoming an Effective Facilitator. These are not just for Rotary, but personal/professional development training.
Food Drive
Food Drive Suspended for Indefinite Time
Due to health concerns, our participation in The Caring Closet at Oakton Community College has been suspended. We are hoping to begin collecting these necessary items again soon.
Welcome!
Our Motto:
Service Above Self
Because of Corona virus safety concerns, we are now conducting Virtual Meetings. Please join us when we are able to have live meetings at our usual location.
