Our club meeting last Wednesday, May 27 was attended by 24 members. John Held mentioned that businesses that have been closed, retailers, restaurants, service providers may be opening next week in Wilmette and the Chicagoland area albeit with restrictions. This was good news for us who own these businesses, as well as for those of us who desperately need a haircut, manicure, pedicure, golf with carts, outside dining, etc.
We had a very detailed and informative presentation by our own member Paul Waechtler, Principal of the New Trier Northfield Campus (summary below).

Mike Braiman, Wilmette Village Manager, spoke to us about what the Village of Wilmette is doing during the lockdown restrictions. Two major projects will be proceeding soon - the Optima project at Central and Green Bay and the Stormwater Improvement Project.. In response to the pandemic, Mike indicated that the Village closed its offices early on March 10, before the governor's orders. But many of the Village services are continuing (eg. building permits). There are, thankfully, no infections in the police or fire departments. The Village initiated a grant program for small business assistance to tax-paying businesses and service businesses. Going forward, the Village Board is looking at extending outdoor dining options to restaurants and opening beaches. Mike described a Central Avenue Reconstruction Project which will start in August.
