Renee Dominguez, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist who serves as the Executive Director of the Family Service Center (FSC), a local not-for-profit community mental health agency that provides counseling, crisis response, outreach, and education to the Wilmette, Glenview, Northbrook and Kenilworth communities. The center provides help to individuals dealing with stress, emotional disorders, adjustment disorders, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), substance use disorders, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorders (ADHD), and Non-Suicidal Self-Injury (NSSI). Since COVID, they’ve had to shift to a Telehealth Platform, making Webinar presentations, a VirtualConnect discussion group for school staffs, parent programming and creating a Resilience Builder Program for youth.
The mental health challenges caused by COVID are dramatic. In an August,2020 poll among adults by the CDC: -- 30% had significant anxiety or depression -- 26% had symptoms of trauma or stress related disorder --16% had significant substance use increase -- 10.7% had considered suicide in the last 30 days.
