Betsy Kmiecik, Harassment Prevention Committee Chair for District 6440, described the development and enactment of the District's Harassment Prevention Policy. RI adopted a policy on harassment in 2019; District 6440 formed a committee in May 2020 to develop a district policy. Basically, harassment is any "unwlecome physical. contact, comments or advances". But to be considered legally "harassment", it must fall into one of 12 protected categories: age, ethnicity, race, color, sex, sexual orientation, religion, abilities, socioeconomic status, culture or gender identity. Betsy explained the remedial process as well.

Summer beckons, and we’re coming out of the pandemic, but it’s not yet practical for us to gather in large numbers. But we still want to have a District Conference, to celebrate our accomplishments, learn something, and especially, be inspired. Instead, this District Conference will be virtual, put on with the help of and in collaboration with a number of clubs.

Only about 15 members responded to Frank's survey request about in person meetings. All responders were in favor of in person meetings with several stating that we should begin with our July meetings. Several said that we should investigate the possibility of hybrid meetings.
The most important comment was that all who attend must be fully vaccinated, including wait staff. This is extremely important since there are members who may have compromised immune systems.
Our first in-person meeting will be the installation of our new president, Nick Dallas, and the new board members on July 7. This will be followed by an in-person club meeting at the golf club on July 14.
We have received a New Member Application from Carly Morell. Carly is currently a Senior Diversion Investigator for the US Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration. As a teen and young adult, Carly was a Rotaract and Interact member in Texas and Georgia. She has interests in international and community service. She is a member of the Chicago Council of Global Affairs and has done volunteer work in Honduras. She holds a BA in International Relations, and an MS in Public Administration. She is also a licensed real estate broker. Carly is interested in joining our evening group, and has attended several meetings to date.
If you have not purchased a ticket online or notified Kent Meyers that you are coming, DO SO NOW! We need a headcount by tomorrow, Monday.
We are planning our annual Installation Dinner for Wednesday, July 7 at the Wilmette Golf Club. It will be held in-person from 5pm to 8pm. The cost for dinner will be $50 per person.
