Meet Your New District Governor, Bill Kmiecik
Bill Kmiecik of the Rotary Club of Arlington Heights was officially installed as District 6440 Governor for the year beginning July 1. Bill has been a Rotarian since February 15, 2007.  He has served the Rotary Club of Arlington Heights as president, vice president, treasurer, and community service chair.  He has also served on numerous committees including chairing the initial Arlington Heights Rotary Santa Run in 2008.  He has been a District 6440 Assistant Governor, the District Annual Fund Chair, a member of the District Visioning Team, the District Finance Committee and the Foundation Committee.   Bill joined the District 6440 Governor Line in 2019.
New Rotary International President - Jennifer Jones
Jennifer Jones, our new Rotary International President (and first woman president), has announced a number of initiatives for her historical year. The new RI theme is "Imagine Rotary". Jennifer's initiatives are:
  1.  Imagine: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)
Diversity is one of Rotary's longstanding core values and greatest strengths. Jones knows there is more to be done to ensure that Rotary's culture exemplifies our values of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Raising awareness of DEI, including creating a DEI committee in your club that reflects the demographics of your community.
  1.  Imagine a welcoming club experience: Comfort and Care
Rotary has an important role to play to ensure that the club environment and experience is welcoming, inclusive, and enjoyable for all members and participants. Surveys show that comfort and care is the single greatest driver of satisfaction and our most powerful tool for retention. This begins with listening to and understanding what members and participants want out of their Rotary involvement.
  1.  Empowering Girls
Jones will continue past RI President Shekhar Mehta’s Girls Empowerment initiative, recognizing that empowered girls become empowered women.

  1. Imagine Impact: Expanding Rotary's reach media tours
Imagine Expanding Rotary's Reach Throughout the year, Jones will visit eight service projects that represent each of Rotary's areas of focus and polio eradication. The tour will provide examples of how Rotary can make a measurable difference, while introducing Rotary to new audiences and potential partners and influencers.
Next Lunch Packing September 6
Our RAD group's ongoing project to pack lunch bags fo the homeless has a new schedule.  It is now a MONTHLY project.  The next packing date is September 6. They will continue to meet at St. Joseph's Church on Lake Avenue at 6pm on the designated days.  Most nights, the group and other volunteers have packed and delivered 100-150 lunches. Volunteers are welcome. Contact Mariana Al Far (marianafar@gmail.com) if you would like to participate. A RAD member meeting will follow the lunch packing.

They will continue to do this the 1st Tuesday of the month, but our goal is to pass this off to another local group who we will train and pay for the food for them to pack.  Mariana has been in touch with the moderators for a special needs group of students at New Trier who are looking for a project to take on.  We have to wait until school is back in session to discuss this with them and see how soon they can take over.  Mariana will contact St. Joseph Church and confirm we only need the Joseph Room on the 2nd Tuesday of the month instead of every Tuesday.

In memoriam - Long-time Member Jim Kline
Jim Kline who had been a member since 1967 (55 years!) passed away in April. Although we had not seen Jim for the past few years, many members fondly remember Jim as the person who introduced them to Rotary; a good many sustaining members joined because of Jim Kline. When Jim was active, he supported the principles of Rotary in every way.  He was instrumental in forming the Wilmette Harbor Club for Rotarians who wanted to meet in the morning, instead of noon.
Welcome!
