Since 2017, when our bylaws were last updated, our club has recognized "Shared Memberships"; however, several members were not aware of this membership designation. As stated in the bylaws in Article 5, Section 3 - "Shared Members (Shared Membership). A shared membership has a primary member who is registered with Rotary International and a secondary member, or members (there shall not be more than two (2) secondary members) who is recognized as a member of the Rotary Club of Wilmette. Only the primary member pays dues and only the primary member shall have the full rights, including voting rights, and obligations of a regular member. If the secondary member holds the office of President Elect Nominee or a higher office, they will be required to become a full member. Shared memberships can be shared amongst spouses, family members, friends or business associates. Shared memberships are open to two (2), but not more than three (3), individuals who, due to business travel or other long-term commitments, have difficulty meeting the attendance requirements." We no longer have attendance requirements, but primary members and/or secondary members should try to attend meetings when they can. Secondary members will receive the newsletter and other member-wide communication. If you have questions about this type of membership, contact Debora Morris (debora@pftl.net) |
