Beginning November 9, we will once again be meeting at the Wilmette Golf Club. The new restaurant, The Lawn, has agreed to accommodate our bi-weekly meetings. Meeting attendees will be able to order meals from the menu and pay individually. The room will be closed off from the main restaurant, similar to what was done in the past. It is important that as many members as possible come to each meeting, as the restaurant will not want to close off an area if we have less than 15 members show up. If less people come, we may need to use the conference room there for our meeting.
Reminder: our noon club meetings will be every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month. So, November 9 is our first meeting in November. The meeting after that would have been November 23, but since that is the day before the Thanksgiving holiday, we will meet on November 30 instead. December's schedule will be December 14 and December 28. The noon group will try to have a program on second meeting of each month. A program is scheduled now for November 30.
The evening group (Rotary After Dark; RAD) will meet the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7pm. They plan to have a program once per month starting in December. Their first program will be the same as our Nov. 30 program; meeting location will be 1616 Sheridan Road, Wilmette. Our members will be able to attend either the RAD meeting in the evening OR the noon meeting depending on the specific week.
Jennifer Ramirez spoke to us about her organization, &Rise. She told the story of how she was a victim of domestic abuse and had the courage to leave that behind. She got into real estate, completed her education, and became financially secure. Jennifer's passion, however, was to help others who have experienced sexual or other domestice abuse to overcome and live their best lives. She founded &Rise, whose mission is to empower women to be the ultimate versions of themselves no matter what adversities they've faced. &Rise offers free counseling, support groups, financial education, life coaching, and professional development workshops. Jennifer also offers prevention education to help empower and educate women on healthy relationships, red flags, and healthy coping skills. To learn more visit www.womenrisechicago.org

RI Convention 2030 – While our Chicago bid is impending, we have an extraordinary opportunity to support a muti-district Community Engagement effort.
Calling All Rotarians - Friday, October 21 from 7am-3pm, Rotary is renting out Pioneer Court, just north of the Apple Store on Michigan Avenue, right alongside the river, to engage the community in conjunction with the RI 2030 bid. We will set up ShelterBoxes, a table to talk about Rotary, and other Rotary materials to engage passersby. Sign up here.
The RI Convention 2030 committee members will “randomly” stop by that morning to see us in action and visualize what it could look like in 2030 as well. Bring your positive energy, Rotary answers, and can-do attitude to Pioneer Court!
As World Polio Day approaches, Rotary International is getting ready to amplify our message about eradicating polio to protect the world’s children from this devastating disease. We’ve made tremendous progress so far, and now’s the time to intensify our fight to make polio the second human disease ever to be eradicated. In 2020, the World Health Organization’s African region was certified free of wild poliovirus, showing that eradication is possible even in very difficult circumstances.
The wild poliovirus remains endemic in just two countries — Afghanistan and Pakistan— but as long as polio exists anywhere, it remains a threat everywhere. So let’s use World Polio Day to advocate for the support we need to end polio in countries where children are still as risk.
Don’t miss Rotary’s World Polio Day Global Update, a video program that will offer updates on polio eradication efforts and why continued support is critical to protect our progress. The videos will be available on Facebook and YouTube.

Our Rotary Board approved the Member Application from Helen Friedman. We want to welcome Helen into our club and hope that she will soon participate on the committee of her choice. An orientation will take place soon, but the best way for Helen to become an active member is for other members to meet and familiarize her with our committees and projects.
Welcome!
