June 8 Program - Wilmette Human Relations Commission
Gerry Smith, Chairman of the Human Relations Commission (HRC) for the Village of Wilmette, spoke to us about the mission and goals of HRC.  The Commission was formed some years ago, but has become more active under Gerry's leadership.  The HRC is an advisory body to the Village Board and its Boards and Commissions, and its mission is to foster and promote an inclusive community where all racial, ethnic, gender, religious, sexual orientation and cultural backgrounds feel safe and welcomed in Wilmette. The HRC also promotes increased participation in all aspects of community life and endeavors to create a sense of shared community among all residents. The goals of HRC are very similar to Rotary goals for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
Next Lunch Packing September 6
Our RAD group's ongoing project to pack lunch bags fo the homeless has a new schedule.  It is now a MONTHLY project.  The next packing date is September 6. They will continue to meet at St. Joseph's Church on Lake Avenue at 6pm on the designated days.  Most nights, the group and other volunteers have packed and delivered 100-150 lunches. Volunteers are welcome. Contact Mariana Al Far (marianafar@gmail.com) if you would like to participate. A RAD member meeting will follow the lunch packing.

They will continue to do this the 1st Tuesday of the month, but our goal is to pass this off to another local group who we will train and pay for the food for them to pack.  Mariana has been in touch with the moderators for a special needs group of students at New Trier who are looking for a project to take on.  We have to wait until school is back in session to discuss this with them and see how soon they can take over.  Mariana will contact St. Joseph Church and confirm we only need the Joseph Room on the 2nd Tuesday of the month instead of every Tuesday.

EREY Link

This month is the last chance to make a contribution for the current Rotary year.  Remember part of your contribution comes back to our Club to fund our service programs. Ray Zeiss has announced that starting April 1, any member who is currently $500 or less away from a $1000 contribution, can become a Paul Harris Fellow with credits from our past EREY contributions; also, contributions of less than $500 will also be matched.
