Nancy L. Jones, Ph.D. is Program Officer, Division of Extramural Scientific Programs, Community Health and Population Sciences, at the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD).  Dr. Jones spoke to us about the disparities in health access and health outcomes among all US minorities as compared to the white, non-hispanic populaton.  She said that these disparities stem from personal, structural and cultural biases within the US.  She showed graphical representations of the geographic locations of the most disparities.   She offered some hopeful thoughts to correcting some of the disparities.

THE Wilmette Block Party - Save the date for THE Wilmette Block Party, to celebrate Wilmette’s Sesquicentennial, Saturday, September 10. The event culminates a year of celebrations with a day full of activities, performances, food and drink, and most of all an opportunity to celebrate Wilmette’s 150th birthday with family, friends and neighbors. Volunteers are needed here as well.  Maybe our club could organize a group of volunteers. For more information and to volunteer, click here. 

  

Our RAD group's ongoing project to pack lunch bags fo the homeless has a new schedule.  It is now a MONTHLY project.  The next packing date is September 6. They will continue to meet at St. Joseph's Church on Lake Avenue at 6pm on the designated days.  Most nights, the group and other volunteers have packed and delivered 100-150 lunches. Volunteers are welcome.
