Virtual Club Social Meeting - June 17
Our club meeting on June 17 was a social event attended by 21 members (including our incoming District Governor, Lyle Staab).  In addition to socializing, we received affirmation from Ray Zeiss that our Global Grant in the amount of $45,000 was approved!  This will be used to build wells in Angola which makes the establishment of schools possible. We had a special treat as well from local magician, Luis Carreon, from the Chicago Magic Lounge.  Luis performed some amazing tricks with cards, coins, scarves and even an egg.  We thoroughly enjoyed his performance.

Club Awarded Global Grant
Through the efforts of Ray Zeiss, our club's application for a Global Grant was approved, and we will be getting a grant in the amount of $45,000!   This will allow us to place three wells next to RISE schools in rural Angola to bring clean water to an estimated 9500 children and adults in the communities where the wells are placed.  RI has changed its matching offer, effective July 1, so Ray was able to get the grant request in before the matching was discontinued. Thanks, Ray.
Fundraising Committee Meets June 23
We are looking for new ideas and a diversity of members to join the Fundraising Committee.  We have a unique challenge this year since we cannot have our traditional kind of fundraiser.  We will meet virtually on Tuesday, June 23 at noon via Zoom.  Please let Debora Morris (debora@pftl.net) know if you can attend and a Zoom link will be sent to you.
NEW BLOOD DRIVE UPDATE
Vitalant, formerly LifeSource, will now be testing all blood donations for COVID-19 antibodies. Our next Blood Drive (Donation Date) is scheduled for August 21, 2020, at (or about) Noon - Vitalant/Lifesource, 2436 Main Street, Evanston, Illinois 60202.  Please remind anyone who may be interested to make an appointment by calling 877-25-VITAL or going on-line at www.Vitalant.org.  The "Group Code" for The Rotary Club of Wilmette is WM-17.  This is a great way to get tested.
Volunteer Surge - Opportunity to Serve
There is an opportunity to take action through a citizen volunteer opportunity called Volunteer Surge. Rotary Clubs across the country are partnering with Volunteer Surge to recruit one million volunteers to participate in a new program, created by the Global Impact Group.

WHAT IS VOLUNTEER SURGE? - Volunteer Surge is a free, online training program that teaches you to help professional healthcare workers from your home or in the field. Through videos and exercises, you will learn rapidly! Much of this material was originally designed for a comprehensive training to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).  Volunteer Surge worked rapidly to adapt this program to prepare you as efficiently as possible for the immediate crisis, so you will find yourself learning more than you may need to know immediately.

Once trained, you can choose to apply your new skills by providing phone or online support from your home or by assisting healthcare workers in the field. Our software will then assign you to individuals  in need of check-ins, followups,  and other minor health issues. For more information visit  https://theglobalimpactgroup.org/

Suzanne Gibson suggests we look for this calendar every Monday morning since there won't be reminders sent for each event.  On the calendar, you can copy and paste the event title with the link that contains the Zoom invitation into your electronic calendar.  All members were also sent an email with this schedule.
