We heard an interesting presentation from North Shore-based geriatric care manager, Amy Cohen, OTR/L, CDP, CMC. Amy identified the early signs of dementia and how best to deal with people suffering from this condition. She emphasized that patience is the key.  People with dementia are slower to respond to questions and may be confused by the question if it requires a short-term memory issue.  Long-term memory is usually good, but short-term memory is usually faulty. Amy also mentioned ways to prepare for our own dementia should this occur.
