The  Community Service Committee is beginning its annual fall drive to collect clothing, with a focus on winter coats and other winter wear, for Connections for the Homeless.   The donated clothing should be brought into a weekly Wednesday lunch meeting.  Alternatively please contact a Committee member, and particularly John Held  ( or 847-751-0538), to arrange for a home pick up. The   collected clothing will be then delivered to Connections.
Connections is a nonprofit organization that helps North Shore individuals and families that are homeless or threatened with homelessness.   Through the use of a wide spectrum of services, Connections' ultimate goal is to reach each person they serve reach the  highest level of self-sufficiency possible.  What started as an overnight shelter has, over the years,  been transformed into a multi-service agency with education, employment, health, and housing programs.  Connection's four main programs include individual support housing, family support housing,  Hilda's Place (interim shelter) and Our House (youth shelter).   Today Connections helps more than 1000 individuals and families each year with the help over 5000 supporters and volunteers.   Connection serves clients from 31 communities in Cook County, with primary focus on Evanston, Niles, New Trier and Northfield townships.
Surely you really do not need all those extra clothes in your closet while others, less fortunate, can make wonderful use of your extras!
