Here is a brief recap from today's meeting (11/01/16) and from last week (10/25/16):
 
11/01/16 Meeting Update:
  • At today's meeting we welcomed a visitor. James Stelter from the Rotary Club of Bensenville and Wood Dale stopped in to invite members to their annual fundraiser. This event will be held on Thursday, November 10 at the White Pines Banquet Hall in Bensenville. Tickets are $60 each and dinner is included. If you would like more details, please contact Jim at jstelter@bs2.org or call him at (630) 7656-5940 x 1108.
  • Tonight kicks off the first night of the annual Shoe & Boot Drive at Payless from 6-8pm. The sign-up sheet is available so if you haven't seen it yet and would like to sign up for a time slot, please let Tom know.
  • Our club voted to make a donation to the Salvation Army in the amount of $250.00 in lieu of bell ringing this year.
  • This is a reminder that the annual Holiday Dinner & Auction will be held on December 6th. A flyer will be available shortly and shared with members of the club. It's time to start gathering prizes and selling tickets. Tickets will be $50 per person.
  • Our club received a nice complimentary letter from the District Governor in regards to his past visit.
  • We will be having a speaker from Easter Seals within the next few weeks.
  • Happy news was shared and club members participated in Al's trivia.
10/25/16 Meeting Update
Today's meeting featured a presentation by the Interact Club from both Addison Trail High School and Willowbrook High School. Sponsors Marco Gasca and Jeorge de Leon from Addison Trail High School and Andrew Levin from Willowbrook High School introduced representatives from the Interact Club from each high school.
 
Addison Trail High School Seniors Leslie Tolentino, Club President and Diana Graciano, Club Publicist were in attendance to talk about some of the activities and events planned for the year. Rotary club members were invited to attend the Kermes Latino Food Festival, which will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2016 from 11am-3pm at the Addison Trail High School Student Cafeteria. The ATHS Interact Club also participates in the annual Salt Creek Clean-up, serve at a PADS shelter in Itasca, helps out with Kiwanis Peanuts Day, serves as bell ringers for the Salvation Army during the holidays, and also participates in "Feed My Starving Children" an initiative to help provides nutritionally complete meals specifically formulated for malnourished children.  
 
Willowbrook High School Seniors Allison Letson and Valbora Shameti were also in attendance to talk about their clubs activities. The WBHS Interact Club works on a project to help provide clean water with their water and sanitation project. Their club has also worked on helping to establish a library in Senegal. The club has helped collect and send 54,000 books to help start the library. They are also participating in the "10,000 Girls" project, where they aim to help 10,000 girls graduate from college.
 
After the presentation, our club made a donation to each Interact Club to help continue their projects.
 
Happy news was shared and trivia was held.
