Senator Dan Kotowski declared, “Springfield is broken,” at Park Ridge Rotary luncheon September 22 held at the Summit of Park Ridge, 10 North Summit Ave, Park Ridge. He faced tough questions from some Rotarians.

Steve Schermerhorn asked about term limits for politicians. Dan thought that in part it was good for the leaders. Rick Libner asked about teacher funding and ridiculous pensions of some politicians. Dan felt teachers such as his parents worked hard for low salaries and deserved good pensions.  Jim Schaefer wanted to know why anyone would want to be a Democrat in this political climate. Dan said he answers the phone with “how can I help you and listed many bills that have helped taxpayers and small businesses including a health care plan.

Dan, who along with wife Anne and sons Nate and Cooper is a resident of Park Ridge, has become an independent voice for the 33rd Senate District, ushering in a new era of progressive leadership for Illinois according to his web page. It is mentioned he has led the fight for transparency with on-line postings of all government contracts.

It should be noted that Rotary is non partisan service organization and does not support any political party. The views mentioned were those of individual members and represented personal opinions and not those of the Rotary organization. Rotarians try to be informed and good citizens as they promote "Service Above Self" and respond to global and local issues with creative insight and sustainable solutions. Dan Kotowski is one of a series of local politicians that are scheduled to speak at Park Ridge Rotary in the next several weeks.
