Saving Mothers’ Lives in Uganda

In most people’s eyes there is no one more caring than their own mother.  But, in Uganda 5,700 mothers die each year giving birth to a child.  In fact, Uganda has one of the highest mother mortality rates in the world.  This type of sacrifice is never expected of anyone, and it creates a heavy burden on the families and the communities they leave behind.  However, many of these deaths can be prevented with the use of a simple ultrasound machine.  With the help of Imaging the World, Ugandans are realizing how to deploy this technology in remote villages. The rotary clubs of Wilmette, Park Ridge and others are teaming together with the American College of Radiology (ACR) to fund Ultrasounds for rural health clinics using the Imagining the World model.  Their goal is to outfit twenty of these clinics using the Rotary Global Grants process.  Come learn about how this exciting technology is making a major impact in many people’s lives.
