NEIGHBORS HELPING NEIGHBORS FUNDRAISER ANNOUNCED

We need your support!

The Rotary Club of Northbrook has always been a philanthropic club.  As Rotarians, the Northbrook Club supports global missions such as ending polio, providing X-ray machines and clean water to underprivileged nations. But did you know they practice a “charity starts at home” mindset?

To that end the club will host a Neighbors Helping Neighbors [NHN] Reverse Raffle that will be live streamed from the NSYMCA on March 13, 2021 at 6:30 pm.
Tickets are $50 each and must be purchased online before March 6, 2021, but winners do not have to be present to win. The First Bank of Highland Park is the Global Sponsor.  Sponsorships are available from $1,000 and up to support the event. Three $100 prizes will be drawn before the Grand Prize which is a 50/50 split up to $5,000!

“Our club is dedicated to building camaraderie and fellowship through service to our community. We help those in need in other regions or countries, but also locally,” says Carlos Früm, the president of the Rotary Club of Northbrook.

Community service is important and club members have participated in social distance volunteering over the past few months, and now are kicking off community fundraising after a unique year that saw events put on hold.

Gayle Cursio, chair of the fundraising committee, says, “Participation in this reverse-raffle will help support a number of local non-profits and charitable groups in our neighborhoods! Our raffle will be live-streamed from the North Suburban YMCA on March 13th so everyone can take-part and virtually participate in the fun!”

Proceeds from Neighbors Helping Neighbors Reverse Raffle will support Rotary Club of Northbrook projects and grants to local non-for-profit organizations. Previous local support included grants ranging from $500 to $2,500 – totaling about $42,000 - awarded to a number of local non-profit organizations such as: The Northfield Township Food Pantry; Hunger Resource Network; Outreach/Feed 6; Cancer Wellness Center; Friendship Circle Of Illinois; North Suburban YMCA; Keshet; Rainbow Hospice and Palliative Care; Northbrook Symphony Orchestra; Josselyn Center; Northbrook Historical Society; Special Gifts Theater; Total Link 2 Community; Glenbrook North High School Grad Night; Center For Enriched Living; Center On Deafness; Northbrook Community Nursery School; North Suburban Special Recreation Assoc. Foundation; Youth Services Glenview - Northbrook; Family Promise Chicago; and Gratitude Generation.  Additionally, several Community Vocational Scholarships are distributed locally as well by the club.

Club members will receive a RallyUp link to buy tickets later this week.

Enhance your leadership skills in the Rotary Learning Center

Enhance Your Leadership Skills Using the Rotary Learning Center

There are so many benefits to being a Rotarian! Here is one you may not have discovered yet. Free courses in professional development! This article from Rotary International By Arnold R. Grahl will give you some details. See the links below to log on and take courses including for our district 6440.

Professional development is right at your fingertips with the Rotary Learning Center, which offers members a range of interactive courses on navigating Rotary's online tools and developing leadership skills to prepare for new Rotary roles. One is Toastmasters, the other is for our District 6440.

Anyone with a My Rotary account can take a free course in the Learning Center. Among the many courses available are How to Run a Webinar, How to Propose Legislation, Rotary Club Central Resources, and role-specific selections.

Get started by finding the Learning Center under the LEARNING & REFERENCE tab on Rotary.org. If you are already registered on the site, you will have a profile. If not, it's easy to create an account. From the MY PROFILE tab, you can modify your profile, find announcements about new and upcoming courses, and join a community to discuss what you're learning.

A great way to begin is by viewing the How to Navigate the Learning Center video tutorial, which covers what's available and how to make the most of it.
The center's catalog allows users to browse a list of subjects or see a complete rundown of all the courses offered. When registering for a course, you can either proceed to the material immediately or save it for later, returning to it from the MY COURSES tab.

Course material is provided in a variety of formats, including PDF and Word documents, interactive e-learning modules, and videos. Only some e-learning modules have audio, but all of them enable you to decide when to go on to the next screen.

A bar at the top of the screen marks your progress through each course. And a snapshot of all the courses you have registered for is available with the COURSE HISTORY tab, which also enables you to print a certificate once you have completed all requirements. Some district leaders require attendees at in-person training sessions to bring a printed certificate to ensure that they review relevant material before their session.
"This is a great way to use the center," says Adam Arents, Rotary's supervisor of learning technology. "It's better preparation than emailing a list of documents and saying, 'Please read these.'"

If your district sponsors fellowships or scholarships, you'll want to point recipients toward the Orientation for Scholars, Vocational Training Teams, and Peace Fellows course.
One of the most popular courses is Strengthen Rotary, which teaches members to incorporate Rotary values into everyday activities. The Rotary Club Central Resources course, another popular offering, helps members set goals and improve membership information.

Rotary's Learning Center is "a powerful tool," says Arents. "Many Rotarians don't realize the extent of what is there and what's useful for them. We're working to change that."

Brand Aid - Rotary Style

Brand Aid - Rotary Style

Many people don’t know much about Rotary. Together, we can change that…

Despite more than a century of Rotarians creating change in communities around the globe, many people don’t understand what Rotary is, how we’re different, and why they should engage with us. To thrive in the 21st century, Rotary needs a strong identity. And while every Rotarian’s experience is unique, how we tell Rotary’s story should be consistent. You can help by following these simple steps.

How can you help keep Rotary’s identity strong?
Around the world, you find the Rotary wheel along roadsides, in parks, and on sponsored projects. While no two clubs are exactly alike, our wheel signals that what Rotary represents – people coming together to move our communities forward – is the same everywhere.

Like the Nike swoosh, the power of the Rotary wheel is in its consistency. When an organization refreshes its logo, as Rotary did in 2013, using the updated mark is critically important. That’s why Rotary International created the Brand Center to help clubs use Rotary’s refreshed logo consistently and correctly.
Visit www.rotary.org/brandcenter often to find:
  • High-resolution logos and graphics you can download
  • A quick start guide to refreshing your club website
  • Photos and videos you can use on your website and on social media to promote membership, Rotary’s areas of focus, and polio eradication
  • Templates for brochures, newsletters, press releases, and other materials that you can customize to promote your club, project, or event
  • Sample ads for print, billboards, and television
When someone asks, “What is Rotary?” we have a clear, compelling, and consistent answer: Rotary joins leaders from all continents, cultures, and occupations to exchange ideas and take action for communities around the world.
Define the value of what your club does
Do the people in your community know about your club’s work?
An international survey found that 40 percent of the public has never heard of Rotary.* Another 40 percent say they recognize the name but don’t know what Rotary does.*
This means they don’t understand all that your club has achieved in your community. Or how, together, we’re tackling global challenges. Like German and Sri Lankan Rotarians rebuilding a maternity hospital after the 2004 tsunami, so mothers and their children can be healthy and strong. Or Austrian Rotarians welcoming refugees to their small town. Or clubs in Belize, Guatemala, and Honduras working on sustainable ways to bring clean water to more people every day.
Or how we’re uniting the world to end polio once and for all.

That makes it harder to attract and inspire new members, prospective donors, and volunteers.  Spread the word in your community.
Share your story with the world
What makes Rotary different?
Every Rotarian brings something distinct and indispensable to our community, whether it’s personality, passion, or professional experience. That multidisciplinary perspective allows us to see and solve challenges in ways others can’t.

We represent our local communities but tackle projects of every scale and on every continent, and inspire our friends, neighbors, and partners to join us. We do this by connecting different points of view, exchanging fresh ideas, forging lifelong friendships – and taking action. Because we are people of action who are tackling our communities’ most persistent problems with fresh thinking and enduring solutions.

So what is changing? Only how we tell our story. As Rotarians, you are Rotary’s strongest champions. And Rotarians have all experienced life-changing moments when they realize the extent of our impact. These personal moments are why people join and stay with Rotary.

Take the first step:
Share your Rotary experience with two friends and colleagues this month – in person, on social media, or at the office – and encourage them to visit www.rotary.org for more information.
