Last Regular Meeting District Governor Don Brewer  visited our club.  He awarded our club a citation for our donations to the Rotary Foundation and End Polio Now campaign.

 

Don also encouraged us to attend the District Conference on May 17-20 at the Blue Harbor Resort in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and gave us ideas on how to be more effective as Rotarians.

Since Rotary’s advocacy program started in 1995, it has generated more than $8 billion toward ending polio. The United States is the leading public sector donor to global polio eradication with a cumulative investment that totals $3 billion through fiscal 2017, thanks in large part to the leadership of Past RI President James L. Lacy and members of the Polio Eradication Advocacy Task Force for the U.S. Their advocacy colleagues around the world have done remarkable work as well.

Each year, Rotary selects up to 100 professionals from around the world to receive fellowships to study at one of our peace centers. Through academic training, practice, and global networking opportunities, the Rotary Peace Centers program develops leaders who become catalysts for peace and conflict prevention and resolution. These fellowships cover tuition and fees, room and board, round-trip transportation, and all internship and field-study expenses. In just over a decade, the Rotary Peace Centers have trained more than 1,000 fellows for careers in peace building. Many of them are serving as leaders at international organizations or have started their own foundations.
