SEPTEMBER 12 2024 NORTHBROOK ILL -- Rotary International, a global service organization of over 1.4 million members in over 37,000 clubs in 200 countries, was started in Chicago in1905 by 4 businessmen looking for fellowship and opportunities to perform service. It’s headquarters is in Evanston, Illinois.
When Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, the German Rotary Club began collecting humanitarian relief supplies to send to Ukraine by the truckload.
Subsequent shipments included an ambulance which also served as a mobile operating room, a generator due to repeated Russian bombing of the electricity grid, and more and more humanitarian supplies.
Richard Rivkin, a Northbrook Rotarian and local business owner, learned that his long-time business friend in Germany was a member of the Rotary Club of Mühlacker-Enzkreis in southwestern Germany.
Northbrook Rotarians stepped up by providing financial support during this crisis – from day one. Fast forward to late spring of this year, Northbrook Rotarians learned that the German Rotarians would be preparing another truckload of humanitarian relief supplies in mid-summer and offered to assist.
In early August a team of 10 local Rotarians and guests joined with 16 members and guests from the Rotary Club of Mühlacker-Enzkreis to transfer a truckload of supplies at the Poland-Ukraine border utilizing a network of Franciscan monks for reliable distribution in western Ukraine.

What a feel-good event! We had 16 Rotary volunteers plus some CATCH regulars pack 655 coping kits for local High School students. There are 15 items in each kit - information on how to get help, fidgets, sensory items, uplifting stickers and more! We are making a difference for our youth who struggle with mental health! ❤️
