As usual, we'll pre-order individual meals from the restaurant menu.  The menu has changed so please use the link above to review the what is current.  If you have not already done with Jodi, please let me know what you would like for dinner by end of day Sunday, July 13th. Please, please, please . . . include the choice of a side if your selection comes with one and dressing if you select a side salad.

Paying for the meal is different for our evening meetings at Acorn Grill.  Reminder that the staff at Acorn Grill will prepare individual checks to be paid after dinner at the register.  If you are planning to bring a guest that you will be paying for, please let me know that and their dinner order so I can make notes accordingly.  Drinks can be ordered from the bar and added to your individual checks as well.

NEW MEETING LOCATION

Save the Date!! September 16th

Dear Northbrook Rotarians,

Your board has approved a new venue for our lunch meetings.  Beginning September 16th, we’ll begin having our Tuesday lunch meetings at Max & Benny’s in Northbrook.

As you may know, the cost of lunch at the Hilton has increased to $40 (including tax and service charge) per person.  We’ll be paying $25 per person at Max & Benny’s.  This long time, locally owned business provides us with a good size event room, several possible menus, and a convenient Northbrook location. More information will follow as September 16th approaches.

Thank you to our “Task Force” led by Gary Moriello and including Sandy Frum, Kathi Quinn, Elke Friedman, and Bev Moriello, that evaluated many locations before making this recommendation.

Our last lunch meeting at the Hilton will be August 19th.

All hands on deck....

It's Rubber Ducky Time - get your ducks in the competition!!!!

NOTE: All members are required to buy $100 worth of tickets or sell $100 in tickets.

VOLUNTEER TO SELL TICKETS & DAY OF:
Sign-Up Genius which describes the volunteer opportunities you may want to participate in for the Northbrook Rotary Rubber Ducky Race.
  • SELECT venues, dates and times in  August, and September for selling Rubber Ducky Tickets.
  • As you know 100% of what we raise goes back to the community and international projects.
  • The shifts for selling tickets are only 1.5 hours, so hopefully every physically able Rotarian will volunteer for at least one shift.
  • There are two sign-up slots for each shift, so that if you wish, you can team up with someone else (Rotarian or non-Rotarian.)  Teaming up makes the shifts more enjoyable. BUT you will need to bring your own folding table and two chairs.
  • RACE DAY SET UP HELP NEEDED TOO:
    • tent and booth,
    • ducky counts,
    • photography,
    • river walking to collect ducks and
    • various other jobs on the day of the race
These venues are an excellent opportunity to promote Rotary membership to those ticket purchasers that show interest in what we do.  Signs for the tables will also be provided.

OTHER DUCKY NEWS: Please review before your selling ticket events:
=============
USING THE CREDIT CARD READERS
  • PayPal/Zettle has added a security feature.
  • If you are going to use the credit card reader to sell duckies, please call Rick (847-909-9072) when you are starting the Zettle/PayPal software.
  • It will ask for a security code which is emailed to Rick and he will give it to you on the phone.
  • The written instructions are being updated as well.

Donna Lee reports...

"Unite for Good" Rotary Year!

One of the ways we are "Uniting for Good" is doing the Bathroom Grant for the Indri School in Guatemala. (This is the sister school to Ak'Tenamit and a part of the  Ak'Tenamit Association.)

Your club put cash and/or DDF into this grant.  It is our support that has made it possible for Ak'Tenamit to open the door to so many more students who otherwise would be locked in a life of poverty: there are now 1000 students at the two campuses.  90% of the graduates have secured jobs at 2-3 times minimum wage!

Thought I always want quicker progress, here is the current status of our grant:
  • Some WASH training was completed before the students left on vacation, and several more training sessions are programmed for the next couple of months.
  • The laundry sinks and showers are almost completed and the improved septic system will be done after the building is completed.
  • The wood is ready for building the bathroom on the boy's side and when the students return from their vacation, the bathroom can be built!
(FYI: students pay for their tuition with 15 hours of work per week: maybe emptying garbage cans, making tortillas, helping to build the bathroom building. We can "adopt a student" at a dollar a day - $365 for a year's education...)

Thank you for your participation. I will keep you posted.
