News from Germany

ROTARY IN ACTION

Dear Richard,

My name is Michael Craiss and I was the one who gave the online presentation to your club at that time. It is unbelievably beautiful and has deeply overwhelmed us how great the recognition and support from your side is for our Ukraine project. We are very happy about this and would like to thank you and your club members once again. I would like to take this opportunity to briefly tell you and your friends in the club what kind of support we are currently pushing for Ukraine.

Certainly different help is needed of course and we select exactly where we become active and look for direct ways what is actually needed. Through our good connections to a monastery, we were told that ambulances are urgently needed in Ukraine.

That was our goal and we wanted to have an ambulance that is adapted to the road conditions there, robust, few kilometers and in a technically good condition. Furthermore, the medical equipment was of course important to us, because we want to hand over a vehicle that can be immediately ready for use.

So, we started our search and decided on this vehicle.

Mark : Mercedes-Benz 319 Cdi Diesel Ambulance L2H2
Type : AMBULANCE - LOCATION HARLINGEN- HOLLAND
Motor: : Diesel
Emission class : Euro 6
Construction : WAS
Kilometers : 201.000
Year of manufacture : 2013
Max Weight F1 : 3.500 kilo
Max Weight F2 : 3.500 kilo
Gearbox : Manual
Technical : Good,

In the vehicle the following technical equipment will be delivered.
BLS Set:

1x Stryker M1 Stretcher (REFURBISHED)
1x Lifepak 1000 AED (REFURBISHED)
1x Meber Halley Splintset with pump (NEW)
1x Laerdal LSU Suction Unit (REFURBISHED)
1x Laerdal LSU 12v Wallbracket (REFURBISHED)
1x BAK-PAK Backboard (REFURBISHED)
1x Fresenius Agilia Injectomat MC Syringepump (REFURBISHED)
1x Fresenius Agilia Volumat MC Infusionpump (REFURBISHED)
1x ALS bag filled with disposables etc (NEW)

Our Rotarian friend Stefan Pfeiffer is chief at our hospital and kindly provided me with the list of equipment of consumables for ambulances. Based on this information, we will procure the materials for this and fill the many compartments and drawers of the vehicle with them.

According to our planning, we will spend a total of about $ 50,000, - and we want to hand over the vehicle in the week 29 then to the monastery in Ukraine.

I will be very happy to keep you up to date.

Also in the name of our club we would like to thank you again for your great commitment. This is not a matter of course and we are very proud to have started a friendship with your club in this way.

With best regards, your Michael Craiss

Bill Kmiecik, your new District Governor

The 411 from the District 6440 Governor Line

Monday - July 4th, 2022
Distribution:  All Active & Honorary Members, Council of Governors, District Admin
Good afternoon, District 6440 Rotarians, and friends.  Welcome to the first edition of the  411 authored by me, Bill Kmiecik, your new District Governor for 2022-23.  I am honored to be your District Governor this year.  I will try my best to communicate news you can use every week.  Feel free to let me know if you think I’m not or if you have suggestions for improvement.  The format will remain basically the same as last year, except for this week.

I had hoped to be a bit more joyous in my opening paragraph, however, today’s events have hampered my joy.  While the holiday weekend started as a time of celebration, a chance to celebrate our country and a chance to return to a bit of normalcy, the ugliness of our current society has reared its head again, this time in our own backyard.  My heart and I’m sure yours breaks for our neighbors in Highland Park.  I have reached out to our Highland Park Rotarians and offered the aid and assistance of all District 6440 Rotarians in any way needed.  As soon as I hear how we can help, I will pass the word.  I know our district will react as it has for many other things, with a spirit of compassion and service above self.  Please keep the community of Highland Park in your thoughts in the coming days.
This coming year will be a year of continued adherence and pursuit of our strategic plan.
  • We will focus on increasing membership through new membership and reducing turnover.
  • We will add at least 3 new clubs.
  • We will encourage clubs to be creative in their meeting places, types, and interests.
  • We will provide orientation and continuing education programs for new and existing members to prepare them for club and district leadership positions.
  • We will encourage clubs to collaborate with other clubs on service projects, social activities, and grants.
  • We will continue to encourage members to support The Rotary Foundation.
  • We will establish a District level presence in Diversity Equity and Inclusion.
We will do that all with volunteers like you.  We currently have lots of good volunteers but we are always looking for more.  If you would like to help, call me.  We always have a place for people like you, people who want to make Rotary a better place to serve and be served by.

I’ll close with my favorite Calvin and Hobbes script.  It sums up what I’m feeling about the coming year.

I’m going exploring.  I hope you’ll come with me!!
