Last month I gave two Polio presentations and enjoyed a lively barrage of questions (mostly from one Rotarian). One of the comments was to shorten my Polio emails, so I’ll try to keep it short this week. Another comment was about adding a link to donate for Polio – this is currently in the works.
In his email he attached the donation form for you and anyone can call him at 630-399-2421 between 4:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. and I will walk you through the process via the Rotary website.
If you are unable to donate, then please wear your Rotary Pin during the day. As PDG Brewer would say “The Power of the Pin” is incredible.
During this month I also attended two D6440 events that were well worth EVERY Rotarian attending; Springboard to Success and D6440/D6450 Conference. Our D6440 Leadership Team puts a lot of effort into these events so you can learn and network with other Rotarians. Please support the Leadership Team and attend these events. As an added bonus to attending these great events you can bring your Polio donation and give it to me in person, and I’ll mail it in.

World Immunization Week

No new Wild Polio cases reported this week. We are now 5 weeks since the Onset of Paralysis of the most recent reported Wild Polio Case in the Nuristan, Afghanistan.

For the past couple of years, the Rotary Club of Northbrook has financially supported the Rotary Club of Mühlacker-Enzkries (Germany) in their continuing commitment to deliver humanitarian aid supplies to Ukraine through Poland. A couple of years ago the German Rotarians presented their program to us over Zoom.
We have been invited to join the Rotary Club of Mühlacker-Enzkreis for their next delivery later this summer.
Here is the plan.
July 31-August 1 – A full truckload of humanitarian aid supplies will be loaded in Mühlacker and driven to Krakow, Poland (1000 km = 10+ hours)
August 2 – We meet the German Rotarians in Krakow Poland. Afternoon sightseeing and dinner in Krakow. Stay overnight every night in a monastery.
August 3 – Travel to the Poland-Ukraine border and transfer the donations from the big truck to smaller minivans. Meet with Father Jan who is handling the distribution of the donations in Ukraine. Return to Krakow.
August 4 – Depart Krakow to visit Auschwitz (75 km), guided tour is approximately 3 ½ hours. On the return journey to Krakow, visit the Wieliczka salt mine (a complete underground city), 3 ½ hour tour. Return to Krakow.
August 5 – Guided tour of the monastery (a World Heritage Site), depart Krakow.
The cost to stay in the monastery is approximately €20 per night (US$21.33). The costs for the Auschwitz tour and the salt mine underground city tour are each approximately €25 (US$26.67). LOT Polish Airlines flies non-stop to Krakow a couple of times a week, and daily connecting in Warsaw. Other airline connections (United, Lufthansa, Air France-KLM, etc.) are also available.
