District Governor Marlene Frisbie Moving forward to Grow our Outreach !!
Did you know that Rotary is the number one service organization in the world? It is and you are part of it!
How do we share the impact with those who would be terrific members? First, we need to know what Rotary is fully in order to be able to share the one thing that might appeal to a future Rotarian. For us to build our membership, each of us must know and share the impact of what it is that we are doing as clubs across our district.
A few weeks ago, District Governor Marlene Frisbie came to our club to share her vision for the Rotary year. On November 1st, she hosted the District 6440 Grow with Rotary Conference that brought Rotarians together from across the district for a full day of learning, connection, and celebration. We discovered new ideas for membership, youth programs, community service, and leadership.
Breakout sessions covered Rotary’s newest membership tools, how to run impactful service projects, energizing Interact and Youth Exchange programs, simple public image strategies, and ways clubs can support mental health in their communities. We also got to hear stories from clubs putting the Rotary Action Plan into action with real results.
Keynote speaker and Past Rotary International Director Pat Merryweather-Arges presented “Elevating the Rotary Experience: From Engagement to Impact,” exploring how clubs can create meaningful experiences that strengthen connections and drive lasting impact.
Rotarians had time to network in the House of Friendship, celebrate the work of The Rotary Foundation, and share ideas with other leaders, including a special President-Elect Orientation.
Then Saturday, November 8th, Patrick Harrison, our Zone PI leader, was in from Texas to lead us at the Public Image Is Everything Conference. This was an incredible training that not only served us as Rotarians, but as professionals as well. If you want to know how to grow our membership, how to grow our club, public image is a really critical component of that I'm. We will be adding many tips and tactics over the next few months from this program. The bottom line is – that we grow through providing more opportunities for service.
In the words of my good Rotary friend, Bryant Wallace, “When you see more, then you know more is possible! With Rotary I have a Global Life!”
We will begin with a short service project preparing bagged meals for Connections for the Homeless and afterwards share a meal together.

NOTE PROCEDURE: The staff at Acorn Grill will prepare individual checks to be paid after dinner at the register. If you are planning to bring a guest that you will be paying for, please let me know that and their dinner order so I can make notes accordingly.

Food insecurity doesn’t shut down when the government does.

Over the next several weeks, we as a club will be going through a process to nominate and select club members to fill leadership positions in Northbrook Rotary for 2026-27. You play an integral part in this process. We are seeking your input. We are hoping that each committee next year will consist of a few members who would work together to share the load and learn the nuances of that committee.
Following are two lists of leadership positions for the 2026-27 Rotary year.

Chirino is one of the poorest municipal districts of the province of Monte Plata in the Dominican Republic. It has a population of 11,000 people. The daycare-preschool is a facility for 93 children of single mothers. The objective of this initiative is to allow the single parent to either work or continue her education, which will eventually provide wages to support their family. As we know, education breaks the cycle of poverty, opens doors to opportunity, and empowers individuals to transform their communities.
The benefits are -
1. The children start learning the discipline needed for learning,
2. The single mothers of those children can continue their university studies or work,
3. The single mothers who assist in running the day-to-day operations of the daycare, and
4. The entire rural community benefits from the economic ripple effect the site generates.
In their quest for sustainability for their Preschool-Daycare, they approached the Ministry of Education about three months ago, soliciting funding for a private institution. The Ministry of Education required the preschool to have an on-site kitchen for meals and snacks. The shell of the kitchen building is complete. However, the appliances and finishing touches (electricity, doors, windows, and painting) are still missing. Those finishing touches are estimated at the equivalent of US$10,225. the Ministry of Education is planning a site visit within the next two weeks. The rush now is to finish the kitchen prior to the site visit. This is a cash request for an urgent situation, it is not a part of global grant. The request is too small for a global grant, and has not been deliberately presented to TRF.
The Rotary Foundation is not involved in this request. This is for an act of kindness to a trusted NGO who has worked closely with Santo Domingo Mirador Rotary Club in the Dominican Republic, and has received funding from Rotary Clubs from districts 6250, 6270, 6360, 6420, and 6440. In addition to Evanston Lighthouse, Rotary Clubs of Lake of the Hills and Glenview Sunrise have also contributed.
We recommend that our Northbrook Rotary Club donate $1,000. The check will have to be made payable to Evanston Lighthouse Rotary Club Foundation, P.O. Box 445, Evanston, IL 60204, and write on the memo line: DR daycare/preschool.
