Our meeting for next Tuesday, February 10th will be in the evening at Acorn Grill + Terrace (3535 Dundee Rd, Northbrook, Il 60062) beginning at 5:30PM.
We will begin with a putting together bagged lunches for Connections for the Homeless (Connections for the Homeless) and afterwards share a meal together.
As usual, we'll pre-order individual meals from the restaurant menu. A copy of the menu and link to their website are below. Please let me know what you would like for dinner by end of day Sunday, February 8th. Please, please, please . . . include the choice of a side if your selection comes with one and dressing if you select a side salad.
Paying for the meal is different for our evening meetings at Acorn Grill. Reminder that the staff at Acorn Grill will prepare individual checks to be paid after dinner at the register. If you are planning to bring a guest that you will be paying for, please let me know that and their dinner order so I can make notes accordingly. Drinks can be ordered from the bar and added to your individual checks as well.

A Rotary Friendship Exchange (RFE) is an international exchange program for Rotary members and friends that allows participants to take turns hosting one another in their homes and clubs. Our most recent Friendship Exchange (Outbound) was to India, Districts 3150 and 3056, where 12 Rotarians from the Barrington and Schaumburg/Hoffman Estates clubs toured Hyderabad, Jaipur, and Udaipur were treated like Gods. Participants may travel as individuals, couples, families, or groups, and may be Rotary members or not.

We have found that RFE’s that are sponsored by a club or clubs in partnership are logistically easier to coordinate, especially for inbound RFE teams.
Friendship exchanges are organized around at least one of three themes: culture, service, and vocation.

Northbrook Rotary has been billed for three of the five new peace poles in our community. Each one was $330. The winner of our last Bingo Raffle earmarked $1000 of her $1500 prize for our club to use for peace poles. Beyond that, a District 6440 public image grant of $500 was sent to our club for the 2024-2025 Rotary year, earmarked for Peace Poles. Our club budgeted a matching $500 for peace poles during that same year. This Rotary year, a District 6440 $250 peace pole grant has been applied for and is waiting for funding – preference is being given to clubs who are doing their first peace pole.
Financial recap: $990 has been spent of the $1500 available before the $500 club budgeted is used. If we get the $250 grant, that will also be used before the club’s budgeted $500 is touched. [Installation was/will be provided by each of the places where the pole(s) are located.]
These three Peace Poles at Village Hall, the Chamber building, and waiting at the library for spring installation join the one at Wintrust Bank and another at Northbrook United Methodist Church (paid for by the bank and church and do have the Rotary insignia) and the original one at the Devine Word, Techny Campus, installed by the Sisters.
Our five new Peace Poles join the 250,000+ world wide that were begun by a Japanese man after Hiroshima. Please see the key reasons for installing a Peace Pole and where they are found.
District 6440 was so impressed by our club responding to seeing a Peace Pole being installed at Rotary International Headquarters during President Stephanie’s year and club member Mitch Portugal posting a photo of his grandson and him seeing a Peace Pole while on vacation that the plan (hope) is that 125 poles will be in our district for the 125th anniversary of Rotary when we celebrate at the Chicago convention.
Our Spring fundraiser will take place April 24,2026 in the ABC Room at the North Suburban YMCA from 7-9 PM.
The event will feature a series of games played, culminating in a raffle at 9 PM which will have one prize of $1500.
Tickets to the event will be $50 each and purchasers will be entitled to take part in all games, snacks, nonalcoholic drinks, game prizes and the raffle at 9 PM.
Each nonexempt club member shall be responsible for the sale or purchase of $150 worth of tickets or a donation to the club's special projects foundation of $150.
