The Impact of Interesting Topics + Speakers - Conversation Starters!
Wasn’t last week’s speaker amazing? After the meeting, I called my sister in Pittsburgh to chat about WJE’s Richard Walther’s talk. You may or may not know Pittsburgh is “affectionately known as the “City of Bridges,” with 446 bridges – more than any other city in the world, including Venice, Italy” according to the Heinz History Center (yes -as in ketchup….). Pittsburgh is a fascinating place to visit. Besides being home to Heinz, and the Andy Warhol Museum, it’s a fun place to drive around in– because you will see and drive over many bridges.
On Friday – the infrastructure need was tragically illustrated by a collapse of the Fern Hollow Creek bridge in Frick Park. I don’t know if WJE will be called in – but it was fascinating to learn about their projects and skills. If you missed it, or want to know more about WJE projects check out their site project pages:
Frankly, after that meeting – I took walking across the Golden Gate Bridge off my bucket list!!
Point being – never miss our fascinating speakers – you never know what you will find out!
Next up on February 1st is Kathryn Ciesla, Northbrook Village President. Kathryn will update us on the State of the Village.
Then on February 8th is Tom Rosenstiel. Tom is an American author, journalist, press critic, researcher and academic. He has written four novels: "Shining City," "The Good Lie," "Oppo," and "The Days to Come," which can be found in the Library, ordered at Book Bin, or Amazon (if you do this use Amazon Smile & credit our club).

The webinar gives five strategies for intervention: distract, delegate, document, delay and direct; and how to prioritize one’s own safety while intervening. Practice scenarios will give viewers more confidence intervening the next time they see anti-Asian-American harassment.
