As we find ourselves deep into 2025, members of the Rotary Club of Northbrook have much to reflect on — and much to be grateful for. In a world that often seems turbulent, our club continues to be a beacon of service, fellowship, and positive local impact.

 

One of the most tangible ways we feel gratitude is through the meaningful projects we've launched and sustained in our community. Take, for instance, our annual “Coat Off Your Back” winter drive. In November 2025, Northbrook Rotarians, together with our neighboring Glenview and Deerfield clubs, organized a coat drive during Illuminate Northbrook, aiming to collect 2,000 winter coats for those in need. This kind of direct, boots-on-the-ground service reminds us that civic engagement matters — and that our work is making lives warmer, literally and figuratively.

 

We’re also grateful for events like our Rotary Blood Drive, held in July 2025 at the Northbrook Public Library. With every unit of blood donated, we see Rotarians showing up not just to serve but to save lives — a powerful reminder of our core values.

 

This year, we were especially proud to bring Rotary’s global mission to a beloved local tradition: Shermerfest. Our club’s End Polio Now booth helped raise visibility, funds, and awareness for one of Rotary’s most important worldwide initiatives. Amid classic cars, music, and community fun, Rotarians shared the story of Rotary’s decades-long commitment to eradicating polio — a fight that has brought cases down by 99.9% worldwide. Seeing families stop, learn, donate, and take part reminded us that global change often begins one conversation at a time, right in our own hometown. That is something to be deeply thankful for.

 

Similarly, our Charity Bingo Night earlier in the year fostered fellowship, fun, and fundraising. It wasn’t just about raising money — it was about bringing people together and building connections for a cause.

 

As Rotarians in Northbrook, we are part of a long-standing tradition of service. The Rotary Club of Northbrook has been active for more than five decades, with its history deeply rooted in the values of “Service Above Self.”

 

This legacy gives us perspective: our club’s current service is built on decades of dedication. It also brings humility and gratitude — for those who came before us, for the mentors who served, and for the continuity of purpose that sustains our mission.

 

One recent example of that legacy is the Peace Pole donation. In early 2025, the Village of Northbrook accepted a Peace Pole from our Rotary Club to be installed at Village Hall. This symbolic gesture is more than a physical monument — it's a sign of our commitment to peace, reconciliation, and global fellowship right here in our town. It’s a growing legacy, now also residing at the Chamber; Northbrook Bank & Trust and the United Methodist Church.

 

Rotarians don’t just serve — we also build relationships. The camaraderie at our meetings, the shared laughter during service events, and the mutual encouragement all strengthen us.

Through Rotary, we connect with people who share our commitment to bettering the world. Whether during coat-sort nights, blood drive check-ins, or Bingo tables, we find purpose and friendship. For many of us, the motivation to serve grows not just from our mission, but from the people beside us.

 

2025 also offers opportunities to grow, both individually and as a club. Our work in the community has raised our profile, and new service ideas and collaborations are emerging. We are grateful for the promise of future projects, for the chance to recruit new Rotarians, and for the opportunity to expand our impact.

 

Moreover, working in partnership with Rotary District 6440 gives us resources, inspiration, and a broader network. Being part of that larger Rotary ecosystem reminds us that what we do here in Northbrook contributes to global change — and that makes our efforts even more meaningful.

 

To all Northbrook Rotarians: thank you. Thank you for your time, your energy, your commitment to service, and your willingness to show up — even when it's cold, even when it’s hard, even when it's “just another meeting.” Your dedication is the engine that powers our club’s impact.

 

To our neighbors, partners, and donors: we are deeply grateful. Your support, whether it comes in the form of coat donations, event participation, or moral encouragement, makes our work possible.

 

And to the future Rotarians we have yet to meet: we’re excited to welcome you. As we look forward to upcoming service projects, fundraising events, and fellowship opportunities, we invite you to join us. We are stronger, kinder, and more effective when more hands and hearts are involved.

Gratitude is more than a feeling — for Rotarians in Northbrook, it’s a practice. It’s expressed through service, through generosity, through fellowship, and through commitment to our shared values. As we continue into 2025, may our gratitude not just shape how we look back, but also how we move forward.
