Are You In?!

Blood Drive Superheroes Needed!

Right now the movie Superman is breaking the box office numbers! Everyone loves a superhero! But we know superheroes are everyday people – Rotarians – among them!

Our blood drive is coming up and we need help! YOU can be a superhero by volunteering to help at the drive or donating yourself.

In fact, Rotarian/Superhero Denis Polina shared his blood drive experience last year, “When I arrived, I was advised that there is a critical need for red blood cells. Because of this, I donated red blood cells instead of whole blood. It took a little longer. However, I was told by the technician that drew my blood that the red blood cells that I donated would be used the same night as I donated the cells and that they would go to saving six lives.”

The impact of giving blood is critical. Every day in the U.S. patients in hospitals, surgical centers and emergency treatment facilities need approximately 30,000 units of red blood cells; 6,000 units of platelets; 6,000 units of plasma.

Won’t you help? Our Blood Drive is Saturday, 07/26/25 from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM at the Northbrook Public Library. Reach out to Gary if you can help!

P.S. Invite friends and family to donate!]
Road Warrior Needed...

To all members- urgent request....

We need a volunteer. President Dave has suggested that we have RILEE (Rotary's iron lung) at Shermerfest on September 21st. Last time we had it -it drew so much attention. People shared their Polio stories before we even opened that morning.

In order to do this, we will need to have someone or two to - provide a truck with a hitch attached and a driver who knows how to operate a vehicle that has a trailer (RILEE) attached. That person will need to do the following road trip:
  • September 20th: pick up RILEE in Richmond, Illinois about an hour drive from Buffalo Grove, where "Country Thunder" is this week....
  • Bring RILEE to a storage area that evening that has not been determined as of now,
  • September 21st pick up RILEE in the morning of bring it to Shermerfest at Village Green Park,
  • Return it to the storage area that evening after Shermerfest, and the next day return RILEE to Richmond.
  • If any of you can do this, have friends or family who can help please let me know ASAP (no later than July 25th).
  • Carlos has done it previously - he may be able to share the adventure requirements with you!
  • Time is of the essence!
Denis

Ready? Set....Ducky!!

It's Rubber Ducky Time again!!!!

Bev sent out a link to Sign-Up Genius which describes the volunteer opportunities you may want to participate in for the Northbrook Rotary Rubber Ducky Race.

In addition to the various jobs on the day of the race, it also sets out the venues, dates and times in July, August, and September for selling Rubber Ducky Tickets.

As you know 100% of what we raise goes back to the community and international projects.  The shifts for selling tickets are only 1.5 hours, so hopefully every physically able Rotarian will volunteer for at least one shift.  There are two sign-up slots for each shift, so that if you wish, you can team up with someone else (Rotarian or non-Rotarian.)  Teaming up makes the shifts more enjoyable.

These venues are an excellent opportunity to promote Rotary membership to those ticket purchasers that show interest in what we do.

We will need to bring our own folding table and two chairs.  (Please let Gary and Denis know if you need help with this. We have them available. )

Signs for the tables will also be provided.
