COMMUNITY BOOK DRIVE SEPTEMBER 22ND

Area of Focus - Basic Education & Literacy
Bernie's Book Bank suffered a huge loss last week - suffering considerable damage to their Lake Bluff warehouse. A fast-moving storm lifted a corner of the building’s roof and exposed tens of thousands of books to rainwater and debris from the ceiling.

With 1,200 schools and early childhood programs expecting books this year, our precious inventory is eagerly awaited by 300,000 Chicagoland children. Their team has mobilized to contain the damage and salvage as many children’s books as possible.

This has made our book drive even more urgent. Please join the Northbrook Rotary in supporting children’s literacy by donating gently used children’s books to Bernie’s Book Bank during our Community Book Drive on September 22nd at the Meadow Shopping Plaza between 10am and 2pm.

As this is also the "birthday" of Book Bin - they are offering a raffle ticket to each book donor giving them a chance to win some books of their own!

The book drive will be a drive-through event between 10am and 2pm at the Meadow Shopping Plaza, 1977 Cherry Lane in the Farmer’s Market corner. Please bring your gently used children’s books and drop them off. Volunteers will be on hand to help remove books from your car.

Bernie’s Book Bank provides free quality books to children to build personal libraries. They source, process, and distribute 8 free books annually to children ages birth through sixth grade. This event fulfils one of Rotary’s 7 Areas of Focus: Basic Education and Literacy

RILEE Coming October 1st...

Our club will be hosting the RILEE Iron Lung Display at Shermerfest. This is being used as an educational tool that will illustrate Rotary's primary mission - To End Polio NOW!

We need volunteers to set up and man the tents. Last meeting, our guest Jody Weintraub, owner of MaxiSigns brought his mini digital billboard with Polio visuals - that he is donating to our display for the day!

Donna Lee Gulley will be coordinating the Purple Pinkie -interactive opportunity.

Please reach out to the committee for ways you can serve at this part of our Rotary Shermerfest opportunity!
