  • Donation to District 6440 hurricane Katrina relief fund.
  • 40th annual "Coat off your Back" raised over $2,700 for the Chicago Christian Industrial League and filled a truck full of coats, clothing and small appliances. The joint project with the Deerfield Rotary Club has raised over $100,000 for the League since it began in 1965.
  • Team Rotary walked in the Relay for Life at GBN and raised more than $2,500 for the American Cancer Society.
  • Six academic scholarships totaling $6,500, three Vocational Scholarships totaling $3,000 and a $1,500 Robert Friedman Inspiration Scholarship were presented to graduating Glenbrook North students
  • A District 6440 Vocation Scholarship totaling $1,500 was awarded to a candidate sponsored by Northbrook Rotary.
  • The Charitable Fund granted $25,000 to 21 not-for-profit agencies working in the community.
  • The $6,00 budget for International Service distribution was:
    $1,000 to the Rotary Club of Hickory NC as part of their project to supply mattresses to select orphanages in Moldava; $1,000 to LAMP to support their Latin American Medical Program and $4,000 to Misioneros Del Camino in Guatemala for a playground fence, paving a block road, and computers.
  • The money refunded to the club from the District 6440 convention fund was used to send $1100 to the Rotary District 3270 Pakistan earthquake relief fund and to purchase a ShelterBox for $900. 
  • Student guests program in 33rd year.
  • Four students attended RYLA.
  • Members participated in the "Giving Tree" program at The Book Bin.
  • Sponsors Boy Scout Troop 162.
  • Collected food and donated Fun & Frolic money each month to the Northfield Dood Pantry
  • Purchased a book for each child whose family uses the Northfield Township Food Pantry.
  • Began working with the Waveland, Mississippi Rotary Club on a multi-year Literacy project.
  • Club members engaged in an amazing 11,493 hours of service during the year. Averaging 144 per hours per Rotarian this year.
  • Club awarded the District 6440 Vocational Service award for the Ethics in the Workplace program.

  • RI President D.K. Lee's motto for this 2008 - 2009 Rotary year is "Make Dreams Real"
  • In July we brought shoes to our weekly meeting for the "Share Your Soles" project.
  • The Northbrook Rotary Club (with the Skokie Valley and Lighthouse Rotary of Evanston) co-sponsored the Chicagoland Korean Club of Northbrook
  • The club initiated a recognition program for the sponsors of new members to the club, The President's Club.
  • In September the club inducted its one-hundredth member.
  • The Club's Community Services Avenue of Service conducted the first of three blood drives by year's end 110 units of blood were collected saving 330 people
  • In October  members of our club attended the Fall District 6440 District Conference and 30 members participated in our club's popular hospitality suite at the conference
  • October 11th was the date of the annual Northbrook Rotary President's Ladies Luncheon
  • Toys and clothing from Northbrook Rotarians and the children & parents of the Northbrook Community Nursery were collected throughout the year and shipped to Misioneros Del Camino, an orphanage in Sumpando, Guatemala.  A first for our club.
  • The day after Halloween, club members decorated their car trucks and passed out candies and canned food to families served by the Northfield Food Pantry.  A first for our club.
  • The Glenbrook High School Interact Club, which our club sponsors, cleaned shoes donated to the "Share Your Soles" project.
  • District 6440 declared October 24th Polio Eradication Day, our club collected money at the train station in Northbrook.
  • Our club's annual big fund raiser, Rotary 800, sold 704 raffle tickets during the beginning of our country's unprecedented economic down turn; it was a fun evening, our second fund raiser at the Northbrook Public Library.
  • We welcomed the Deerfield Rotary Club to our annual joint meeting in support of the Chicago Christian Industrial League.  The clubs again collected clothing and over $3,500 for the CCIL
  • In November, the Ambassadorial Scholar from Taiwan attending Northwestern University, Andrea Yao, spoke to our club.
  • On December 2nd Governor Pam Kerr made the Governor's annual club visitation.
  • In early winter our club made the transition to use ClubRunner, which is a membership management and communication platform for Rotary clubs and districts. It will help us better organize our club, improve our communications, and empower our members.
  • At the annual December membership meeting the Club's operating by-laws and the Club Charitable Projects Foundation's by-laws were revised to reflect RI new leadership plan.  Joining the four traditional directors' positions (Club Service, Community Service, International Service and Vocational Service) are three new directors' positions, namely, Membership Service, Foundation Service and Public Relations Service.  Thus the Board of Directors ranks were increased by three. 
  • The leadership plan initiated in 2007 -2008 was continued and refined during the year.  The plan is now on-line at the club's web site. 
  • Our club participated in a 3H Rotary International matching grant to create water wells in Nigeria.
  • In January it was announced that one of our club members, Carlos Frum, was elected Governor Elect Nominee.  He will be District 6440 Governor in 2011 - 2012.
  • The club had a Fellowship Dinner meeting in February with the topic of Rotary Fellowship groups
  • For the fourth year in a row one of our club members led a District 6440 group of volunteers to Guatemala.
  • The annual White Elephant Auction netted over $900.
  • In March the club sponsored a Sunday afternoon of Bocci Ball and dinner.
  • The club celebrated its 44th anniversary with cake and ice cream.
  • Membership for the 2008 - 2009 Rotary year started at 99 and ending with 108 members, including three honorary members.  There were 19 new members (15 sponsors) with nine members leaving the club by reason of death, family illness and change of jobs.  One of the members who left our club was Tomonobu (Tomo) Tokimura who left the club when he and his family returned to Japan.  Tomo was studying in the USA for two years on behalf of the Japanese government.
