Protecting yourself on the Internet
Aug. 16, 2022
Lori's presentation will focus cybersecurity tips for protecting your identity and your internet-connected devices. She will discuss how one's "digital footprint" is likely very large these days thanks to smart phones, digital assistants, smart TV's, smart appliances and all the other internet-connected devices. While these all bring great conveniences, they also make it easier for threat actors to find and attempt to exploit you. She will discuss some tips and tricks to help you secure your footprint. Lori has a Bachelors degree in Mathematics from Northern Illinois University, and a Masters degree in Communications from Northwestern University. She has worked in the IT field for over 30 years in a variety of industries including waste treatment, higher education, market research, consulting, retail, finance, robotics manufacturing, automotive manufacturing, and most recently, municipal government. Lori’s held a variety of positions including Systems Engineer, Network Engineer, Senior Consultant, IT Manager, Director, and most recently Chief Information Officer. Ever since her first programming class in the BASIC language in high school, Lori has had a curiosity and passion about technology. Lori’s an outdoors person and loves hiking, backpacking and camping – her favorite place in the US to travel is Alaska. |

Providence Farm
Jan. 10, 2023
Stephanie Zwilling is a Northfield-based therapist who was frustrated and saddened by watching clients who wished to return home to the North Shore from out-of-state treatment or sober-living environments return to find no community to support them. Research is clear that a supportive fellowship of other recovering young people – connection – is the single greatest asset in sustained recovery. In 2017, she was able to open Providence Farm, an extended care community-based and community-supported sober home for 18–30-year-old men who have completed treatment for substance use disorders. The house is on 2.3 acres in Northbrook, Illinois, central to Chicagoland’s North Shore and Northwest suburban communities. It is a unique recovery community environment, providing comprehensive age and gender appropriate support in addition to a drug and alcohol-free residential environment.

CATCH - Let's Talk About Mental Health
Jan. 17, 2023
Our children's mental health is being challenged like never before and CATCH is supporting kids and families as they navigate; urging them to prioritize emotional wellness and fostering resilience. Amy will share her family's personal story and how that led to her idea behind CATCH. She will outline some of the many programs that CATCH is providing for our community and speak to the importance of normalizing conversations around our collective mental health. About Amy: Amy was born and raised in Michigan, moving here after college. After some years in a manufacturing plant translating for Spanish speakers, she moved to Northbrook and began work as a preschool teacher when her youngest went to kindergarten. Before the pandemic, Amy spent 6 years as a first grade assistant teacher at Westmoor Elementary. And, since fall of 2020, Amy has volunteered full time as Executive Director at CATCH. She's a Mom of two and, because of her family's journey, is passionate about mental health and erasing the stigma of mental illness. Amy and her team are challenging our community to normalize mental health by talking openly about it and making our home a safe place to reach out for help. |
