The Rotary Club of Long Grove, Kildeer, and Hawthorn Woods donated this beautiful gift basket to the Emmaus House fundraiser at Lake Zurich's "Rock the Block" event on September 8th. Club member Jim Dopler volunteered more than 40 hours to help the charity raise more than $3,000 over the past two weeks. The gift basket contained three bottles of wine, 4 wine glasses, a Rotary International Cookbook, two Rotary Club coffee mugs, and restaurant gift certificates to Enzo & Lucia in Long Grove, Oregano's in Hawthorn Woods, and Tsukasa in Kildeer. The weather for "Rock the Block" was pleasant, although a bit windy. The crowd estimate was more than 8,000. The event included three live bands and numerouse food trucks. Emmaus House also collected more than 500 pounds of non-perishable food items at the event to stock the shelves of their Sunday night food pantry at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Lake Zurich. The Club also sponsors the Emmaus House Sunday evening community dinner one or two times each year.
