Club Business: Janice Kellman called the meeting to order. A discussion of upcoming offsite meetings and the potential visits to businesses and restaurants who sponsored the Fourth of July 5K race followed.

Janice Kellman introduced Donna Gulley with the Northbrook Rotary Club and noted she is attending to share information on ShelterBox. Ms. Gulley shared information on the history of ShelterBox. She noted ShelterBox's intent is in delivering disaster resources to communities in need. The first year that ShelterBox was around was in 2000, and 143 boxes went to support people affected by a tsunami in India. ShelterBox has learned that the historical large box is not what is needed and has adjusted services over time.

Ms. Gulley requested club members imagine what happens when a community collapses and all things are gone. At the current moment 113 millions people around world in need of support by ShelterBox.

Ms. Gulley shared what is often donated in terms of a shelterkit to assist in building out a single room/repair a damaged home. 

She shared smaller ShelterBox items are specifically for need/use of people in the disaster area. Ms. Gulley shared information on current deployments. Eight out of 10 places where shelterbox was active in October were result of political disaster.
 
ShelterBox as an organization has received many recognitions including receiving the peace prize.
 
Ms. Gulley shared information on ShelterBox in the US during Katrina hurricane follow up and post hurricane in Houston.
 
ShelterBox started in the United Kingdom.
 
Equipment deeded to a family via ShelterBox is actually deeded to the family. ShelterBox looking for $1,000 contribution. If club does a $1,000 contribution club will receive a HERO banner recognizing support. Ms. Gulley noted the club can borrow the green box or other signage to present at various community events.
 
Ms. Gulley shared top fundraisers in the area and how members of the district are big fundraisers for ShelterBox.
 
Janice Kellman noted the District Grant was received for Operation Warmth. She noted the Club needs to issue $500 check for this fundraiser. Dale McClain agreed to reach out to PADS to determine need for shoes/coats.

Reminder - Next week meeting will take place at the Deerfield Free Store. Located at Holy Cross School in Deerfield - 724 Elder Lane. Will meet at regular time at the Deerfield Free Store at 7:45 a.m. Members are to go in main parking lot southeast corner of the parking lot.
