BULLETIN – June 24, 2026

President Tom Gore called the meeting to order, Rich Babjak gave the Pledge, Greeter Dave Westlake led us in prayer, and Dennis Kratohwil, after his usual lengthy intro, helped us with singing: “I’m a believer”. 

 

-Steve Risley recently returned from a week in Florida with 12 members of his family. He seemed relatively unscathed!

-Hapi Datt’s daughter had a baby.

 

-We had 33 members and friends marching in the Libertyville Days Parade. A great turnout! Thanks to Rich Schoeneman for coordinating. Please give any suggestions for improving our participation to Rich.

-We will have a booth at Lunch in the Park on Friday. Hours are 10 to 2. All are welcome.

-The Installation Dinner will take place at 5 pm at Tom Zengler’s house on July 22^nd.

 

Bill Rickert entertained us with fun facts and crazy laws in honor of the Nation’s 250^th birthday.

 

Todays program featured Rob Baker, Manager of the Waukegan Secretary of State’s office. The Secretary of State’s office in Illinois has a staff of 4000 and 25 departments. It is the largest in the Country. Rob told us that the modernization in the department is night and day. They have become active on social media and the ‘skip the line” program is a great improvement. Lines are shorter because you need an appointment to use their services which helps control the flow. They are operating smoothly and online services are big help.

Improvements include requiring drivers tests at age 87 instead of 82. Some centers are open on extended hours. Real ID requires a thorough background check. CDL requires a knowledge of English. Non-citizens can get a driver’s license. Some written tests are available as multilingual. Safety is their priority. “Never see a problem, only resolutions”. The department is hiring. Website ilsos.applytojob.com. Rob suggested avoiding Mondays and the beginning and end of the month at centers. He also recommended staying away from Facebook Marketplace. Too many scams.
