BULLETIN – September 2, 2026

President Bill Taranowski rang the bell, Kim Smith gave the Pledge, and Greeter Kyle McCartney led us in prayer. Because of a packed program, there was no song nor Fun & Frolics.

 

-Roman Keating with Free Spirits Special Olympics went to State. 

-Dave Westlake’s daughter is now at school in Worster Massachusetts, and misses being at Rotary meetings.

-Bill Taranowski dropped his middle daughter off at Boston College.

 

-The Polio Walk is on October 24^th.

-The monthly Club Board meeting is next week at Scott Hezner’s office at 4:30 pm.

-Howard has tickets for the Misericordia Family Fest on September 13.

-We still need bartenders for the USO event at Mickey Finns on September 24^th.

 

-Libertyville Mayor – Donna Johnson.

-Kelley Simmons - Executive Director – Mainstreet.

-Michael Schyman – Aldridge Cares.

 

Today’s program was a presentation of checks to some of the charities we support. Howard Jaffe recounted how we raised $175,000 at our recent fundraiser and sponsored or contributed to 55 organizations. In addition, we provided scholarships to LHS students and RYLA attendees. The groups we presented checks to, do not have fundraisers we can sponsor. 

-Libertyville High Schools has 4 groups receiving checks.  

LHS Interact Club does several community projects.

LHS Best Buddies provides mentorship to kids with developmental disabilities.

LHS Top Cats tutor elementary school students.

LHS Stars help with a Special Olympics Swim Team. 

-Bravehearts provide horse therapy for veterans. They have served 1100 vets this year. They have facilities in Harvard and Rockford. They help with suicide prevention and provide support for equine Special Olympics.

-Erie Family Health has 14 facilities across Chicago and suburbs providing patients with family health.

-Free Spirits was started by former Rotarian Ken Chapin and his wife Diane 25 years ago. They support a Special Olympics baseball team.

-Lake County Center for Independent Living provides readiness for disabled students to prepare them for employment in adult life. They provide pathways for disabled students to join the workforce.

-Libertyville Historical Society is in the Cook mansion. They have found and restored a Lincoln campaign banner. It is on display.

-Libertyville Township Food Pantry accepted our donation and will participate in Pumpkinfest.

-The Tool Library of Lake County. The library is located at 423 Seymour in Mundelein. For $50 per year a member can borrow any of their tools. They have tool advisors to help with your project.

-Youth and Family Counseling provides mental health counseling to kids and their families.

-American Legion Post 329 will be here next week.

 

-Daily: $34 won by Howard Jaffe who donated it to the Food Pantry.

-Progressive: $158 (50 cards). Shelley Clark from the Tool Library drew the 10 of hearts.
