Call to Order:  Club President Tom Zengeler called the hybrid In-Person/Zoom meeting to order.  Steve Risley led the Pledge of Allegiance and Polly Grover gave the prayer.  There was no one to lead a song.

-Pat Hart said Highway cleanup is Saturday April 24^th, starting at 7:00 am sharp in the parking lot boardering Peterson Road.  The counts for a meeting makeup.

 

-The club’s new electronics Recycling Program event will be held Saturday, May 8^th.  Volunteers are needed.  Use your contacts to get the word out to the community.  Some electronics require payment for recycling.  PCs are no charge but TVs require payment.

 

-Diana Taylor encouraged everyone to participate in Service Partners of Lake County (our affiliate) online  pro-callers bingo game fundraiser. 

 

Fun and Frolics:  Seb Karusu did a quiz about spices and left everyone a bit bitter (if they didn’t know the answers).   

 

Rosie Diaz from Lake County Safe Place provided a power point presentation about assistance for women and children from domestic violence which is the power and control over another person.  This involves physical assault, sexual violence, psychological violence, emotional abuse, and human trafficking.  It often ends in death after time.  There are 10M victims per year country wide and the Zion administrative office is currently serving about 100 clients in abusive services.  There is a Crisis Line and Crisis Services, offering services to include housing, counseling, legal advocacy, prevention and education.  They have 40 apartments.  This affects 1 in 3 women and 1 in 7 men who have been or will be victims of domestic violence.  1 in 15 are involved in domestic violence at some time in life.  There are over 20,000 calls on the hotlines nationwide and over 22,000 trafficking victims and survivors in the US.  Illinois is currently ranked 7th.  Weapons are a contributing factor and increases risk of homicide by 500%.  The cycle of violence has 3 specific phases, the honeymoon phase, tension building phase, and explosion phase.  People often ask, “Why doesn’t she just leave?” and reasons are fear, low self-esteem financial reasons, children, hope for change, faith, shame, and where to next.  It often takes 7-8 tries to leave an abusive relationship.  They have four fundraising events a year, primarily a golf event held in Deerfield, a virtual 5K race, and a Gala in October.  The Lake County administrative office is located at 2710 17th St., Zion, IL  60099.  They have 16 offices in Lake County.  The Crisis Line is 1-800 or 847-248-4450.
