PROGRAM:
Mike Tully is the Chief Operations Officer of the Lake County Forest Preserve and he provided us with updates regarding the beach at Independence Grove and the Lake County Forest Preserve.

The beach is going to be converted to a beer garden space and the targeted opening date is Memorial Day. The forest preserve is going to partner with local breweries to feature a variety of craft beers on tap. In addition, it will make available light snacks and other beverages. The beer garden will be open on weekends and will close at sunset in accordance with the Independence Grove hours. There will be a Tuesday night concert series and there is the possibility of renting the space for events.

A few updates related to the overall operations of the forest preserve:
  • The preserve has reached an agreement with CLC that allows the college to move its culinary operation to the Brae Loch club house. As a part of the agreement, the college will aid in maintaining and operating the club house facilities.
  • Visitation to the local forest preserves, golf activities and boat services reported record numbers in 2020 and the trends are continuing in a positive direction in 2021.
  • A new education building has been approved at Ryerson Woods.
