President Olson opened the meeting, Jeff Harger gave the Pledge, Diana Taylor led us in prayer and Dennis Kratohwil attempted an Irish song for Saint Patrick’s Day but forgot the words.

 

-Tucker’s recap of the Board meeting: Diana went to President elect training, Fundraiser was a great success and we will give out $75,000 to local charities plus $17,000 to the paddle raise beneficiaries for disaster relief, Scholarships for vocational training, $7,500 for a global grant in South Africa, $2,500 for a Guatemala project and funding for RYLA scholarships

.

-Misericordia Candy Days are the last weekend of April. Rich Babjak will be looking for volunteers.

 

-Tom Miller reported that the Feed my Starving Children packing event at the Pet Factory in December was a big success packing over 500,000 meals.

 

-We are looking for hands on events to do this spring.

 

-The golf league starts 4/30 at Lake Bluff at 4:00 pm. Cost is $50 per person for prizes. 

 

-The Summer fundraiser planning is underway. The Committee will determine the final schedule.

 

-The grant awards dinner is May 2 at 5:30pm at White Deer Run.

 

-Tucker Olson has a new grandson.

 

-Teri Dreher received a Business Excellence Award from the Daily Herald.

 

-Dr. Dave Potts entertained us with a putting contest. The putter was even older than

Dave!

 

Today’s program is Dr. Guy Schumacher, Superintendent of Libertyville School District 70. Dr. Schumacher has lived in Libertyville for 26 years and has served as Superintendent of District 70 for 10 years. He is retiring this year.

 

District 70 has 2400 students split among 5 schools: Adler Park, Butterfield, Copeland Manor, Rockland, and Highland Middle schools. The district is committed to 21^st Century learning. The concept includes students: communicating, working in teams, solving problems, making connections, using technology and practicing self-direction.  Students are taught that character counts. They learn trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.

 

District 70 has received a certificate of financial recognition from the State Board of Education each year for over a decade. The district has received a Bright A+ award to allow parents to find the Best Schools in their area. All five schools have received the blue ribbon award. Program changes include: full day kindergarten, increased special service programs for gifted kids and those with special needs, increased technology, both hardware and software, and expansion of extracurricular offerings.
