Jon Robb opened the meeting, Scott Hezner led us in the Pledge, Ellen Young gave the prayer in the form of the song: “Let there be peace on earth”. Not to be outdone, Dennis Kratohwil had us hum the Olympics theme. Greg Hill was a returning guest.
BRAGS:
-Bill Taranowski’s daughter, Claire, graduated from college and spent time traveling. She is starting a new job in Boston.
-Steve Risley returned from 10 days in Door County and helped move his son to Alabama. His son and his wife are expecting Steve’s 3rd grandchild.
-Carol August’s oldest son got married recently.
-Doug Fendon bought a 2-day pass to Eagle Ridge in Galena at the Fundraiser. Highly recommended.
-Tom Zengler has all 4 kids at home. It was their idea!
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
-The Habitat for Humanity service project has been cancelled.
-The picnic at Independence Grove is at 5:30 pm on Wednesday June 31st. NO MORNING MEETING.
-The Club meeting on 8/7 will be about next year’s fundraiser. It is very important for you to attend.
-Welcome to Ellen Young and Happy Datt. They are joining us from the Passport Club.
FUN & FROLICS:
Tom Miller entertained us with a contest to stack golf balls on top of each other.
PROGRAM:
Today’s program was the final session giving checks to the charities we support. Those present were:
-First up was Rick Navarro from American Legion Post 329 in Libertyville. The American Legion is the largest veteran’s organization with 1.2 million members. 329 was formed in 1919 and takes part in many veteran support efforts. The funds will be used to refinish floors and repair their garage.
-The Lake County Center for Independent Living was represented by Elise Steffe. They help the disabled with employment readiness, computer skills and daily skills. They help the disabled advocate for themselves.
-Carrie Flanigan represented the Lake County Children’s Advocacy. They provide information about child abuse and improve recognition of the problem in Lake County.
-Katie Schultz told us about Lake County Haven. She thanked us for many years of support. They have a holistic approach providing shelters for abused women, so they are never homeless again. They are opening another shelter on August 1st.
-The Libertyville Stars support special needs swimmers. Coach Michael Reed says they are working with 40 swimmers who are doing very well. The swimmers are mentored by LHS students.
-Marly Subido from Mother’s Trust told us they are celebrating 25 years of assisting children with housing and other needs. In 2024 they helped 1554 children. They conduct a summer camp for kids and provide kids with coats through their coat drive.
-Van Miller and Brett Loding from the Mundelein Tool Library told us that they are a tool lending library. 99% of tools are donated.
-The Special Gift Theater was represented by Else Larsen. They provide music and theater experiences for the disabled. They are doing a production of Alladin and are supported by their annual community walk.
-Mackenzie Liberta and Davis Scheffler from Willow House accepted a grant . Willow House operates a grief support center for those who have lost a parent or child.
-Jim Western of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Lake County told us they operate 10 sites in Lake County for after school activities in Waukegan and Gurnee. They have 8 staff members and need volunteers. They will have an open house in their rebuilt Waukegan facility on 9/12.
RAFFLE:
-Daily: $36 won by Tom Zengler who donated his winnings to the Food Pantry.
-Progressive: $510 (31 cards). Tucker Olson drew the Jack of Spades. Close but no cigar.

ROTARY MINUTE:
The Rotary Foundation was founded in 1917 by Art Kumpf. The first donation was $26.50, and the first grant was for $500. Today, the foundation has $4.4 billion in assets and funds projects worldwide!
