Bulletin February 21, 2024 by Rich Babjak

President Babjak called the meeting to at 5:30 pm for our monthly evening meeting.

Robin O’Connor led us in prayer.

Brags:  Bill Taranowski bragged about his recent trip to Japan, which was greatly enhanced by having a spouse who works for United Airlines.

Announcements: Diana Servos celebrates 11 years in Rotary this month.

Tim Dempsey is continuing as Bulletin Editor, but considering the underwhelming response to the request for assistance, the Board has decided that in Tim’s absence, the Rotarian assigned to Greeter & Prayer at that meeting will write the Bulletin. A template will be provided by the Sergeant-at Arms.  Volunteers for Bulletin Editor Assistants are still being sought!

Carol August has volunteered to be our Bingo Coordinator….Thank you Carol!

Howard Jaffe updated us on the upcoming fundraiser.  We need more silent auction items and we need to sell more event and raffle tickets.  The event is only a couple of weeks away and it’s Crunch Time Folks !!!!

Fun and Frolics:  Tom Zengeler quizzed members on the contents of the latest Rotary Magazine.  Hmmmmm……By the response, one might wonder if everyone is getting their subscription…..contact the club secretary if you are not ;)

Program:  Ron Arden, the Artistic Director and Coordinator of the Lake County Symphony Orchestra spoke to us about the power of music and the ways that it can impact us. The Orchestra brings music to schools and to adults throughout Lake County.  In fact, this April they will be performing a concert that will present both jazz and classic compositions, and in July a concert of patriotic music will be presented.  We were impressed by the efforts of Ron and orchestra members to serve our community, but even more so when we learned that Ron had a car accident on the way to our meeting but “soldiered” on to make his presentation to us.

Raffle: Rob Likus took home $18 in today’s raffle while Howard Jaffe drew the King of Hearts in the progressive…….BooHoo….:)

Next Week:  Greeter & Prayer: Larry Neal

        Fun & Frolics:   Carol August

Program:     Nand Belawi from the Elgin Rotary Club will discuss an international project that their club is conducting.
