Returning President Jon Robb had no trouble finding the bell, Patricia Bleck gave the pledge, Greeter Ellen Young led us in prayer, and Dennis Kratohwil gave us a rendition of “Working 9 to 5”.

 

-Bill Rickert just returned from an Alaskan cruise. A great week!

--Steve Risley drove an 86-year-old veteran to an Honor Flight from Midway. Honor Flight has flown over 12,000 vets to Washington.

-Dave Potts and his wife celebrated their 54^th anniversary.

-John Blair’s oldest son got remarried and moved to Seattle.

-Charles Lesser just returned from a trip to Glacier National Park.

-Doug Fendon played golf in Lake Geneva in a foursome purchased by Tom Miller at our recent fundraiser. He also had a visit from his daughter and son in law and his 2 grandchildren. They are now back home, and Doug is exhausted!

 

-Volunteers are needed for a USO fundraiser event at Mickey Finn’s on 9/19.

Tucker Olson gave us questions from the US citizenship exam which has 100 questions.

 

Norm Gann and Todd Cotter from Lake County Responds for Veterans were presented with their donation from our fundraiser. They do home repairs for veterans and surviving spouses. “It is hard to find vets who ask for help”. 

 

Nancy Bock, aka Mrs. Doug Fendon, told us about Erie Family Health Centers. Nancy spent 30 years at Baxter and is the former Executive Director of Health Reach. In 2012 Medicaid changed and Health Reach transferred to Erie. Erie is celebrating their 10^th anniversary. Erie helps all people live their healthiest lives. They serve all ages with several programs. Services are not free. Clients pay what they can afford.

Erie has 13 locations in the Chicago area. The newest location is in West Garfield Park. They have 800 staff personnel and serve 91,000 patients. 70% are Medicaid patients and they speak 92 languages.

The Waukegan office serves 10,000 patients. 94% are low income. They offer pre-natal care, primary care, dental and psychiatric care. Last year they helped 280 babies, this year is expected to be 450. They have a hard time recruiting people, especially doctors. Most of their supplies are donated. On October 22 they will have a 10-year celebration at the Lake Forest History Center.

 

Doug Fendon was wheeled for his long introduction of his wife. He will do the opening song next week.

District Directed Funds DDF are Foundation funds that get directed 47.5% to the district, and 47.5% to the world funds.
