BULLETIN – January 8, 2025

President Elect Tom Gore opened the meeting, Tom Miller gave the Pledge, and Greeter John McDonald led us in prayer. There were no volunteers to lead us in the song. Imagine that!

Tom welcomed guest Michael Schymarr, CFO of Aldridge Electric, who will be a sponsor again this year for the Fundraiser and hopefully a new member! Tom reminded us that we need new members. He also said Jon Robb was with his wife who is having knee surgery.

 

-Bill Taranowski just returned from a vacation over the holidays.

-Ellen young welcomed her fifth Grandchild on Christmas Day. Hopefully the child will get double presents on their birthday!

-Carol August’s oldest son bought his first house.

 

-Hapi Datt’s birthday is January 6^th and John Blair’s is January 14^th.

-Poly Grover celebrates 6 years as a Rotarian.

-Ellen and Chris Young have been married for 49 years!

 

-Steve Risley had heart surgery on January 2^nd. He is home and progressing well.

-Howard gave a Fundraiser update. We have 600 tickets to go. We will have posters next week. We will have a Cook Park banner next week and we will continue doing mass emails and Facebook postings. The theme will be the 65^th anniversary of Second City and the cast is complete. We need to sell out the theater and we can use more sponsors. There are 11 restaurants participating and the after party will be at Mickey Finns again this year.

-Silent auctions are trickling in. We need to exceed last year.

 

Jim Curtis entertained us with a baseball trivia quiz because we are not far from the start of baseball!

 

Today’s program was Ben Rodriguez. He is the Director of college & career readiness for Libertyville District 128 covering LHS and Vernon Hills high schools. He oversees their work base learning program and helps students explore multiple career paths. In addition to college, students can choose apprentice programs, military careers and trades. Each student needs to graduate informed, prepared and empowered. Students make informed choices about their post graduate path and match skills with the chosen path and obtain the necessary credentials.

How is this accomplished? First, students receive career awareness by learning about available careers and what they involve. Second, students explore 2 to 3 different career areas and develop skills in those paths. Third, students get career experience through workplace internships. Finally, students can earn a career credential. College & Career Pathway Endorsements (CCPE) are state credentials to honor students who have developed skills and experiences in a particular pathway.

Tools include an online career center to explore career options. The school conducts events with guest speakers and treks to businesses. They also do a Career Fair Day. Students can apply for jobs. They do a 60-hour internship to get work experience, essential work skills and even college credit.

 

Scott Hezner failed to sign in. He will help clean up after the meeting or pay $5.
