President Gore rang the bell, Rich Schoeneman gave the Pledge, Kim Smith led us in prayer, and Dennis Kratohwil helped us sing a modified version of” Oh, what a beautiful mornin’ “in honor of the Canadian wildfire haze. Glenn Garlick provided the new microphone that is granddaughter tested.
BRAGS:
-Howard Jaffe, playing in the four-way testers golf league, shot a 40 on Monday with only 9 putts!
-Dave Potts had an aortic valve replaced last Thursday and came to the meeting 6 days later!
-Bob Zamor was finally able to publish the Bulletin in Club Runner.
-Tom Gore attended the Oshkosh Air Show with his grandson. The show had 704,000 attendees and 10,000 aircraft.
BIRTHDAYS & ANNIVERSARIES:
-Birthdays: Dennis Kratohwil – 8/16, Bob Zamor – 8/18, Tim Dempsey – 8/22, Glenn Garlick – 8/25.
-Anniversaries: Jim Curtis with wife Jane – 55 years, Dave Potts with wife Lorraine – 55 years, Bob Zamor with wife Nancy – 52 years, Rich Babjak with wife Margaret – 34 years.
-Rotary Anniversaries: John McDonald – 9 years, Tom Gore – 5 years.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
-President Tom Gore gave us a recap of the Festival of Arts at the Adler Center. We had increased exposure because we had a blue canopy of our booth. We attracted 13 possible new members.
FUN & FROLICS:
Michael Schactner entertained us with a game of beer pong. Unfortunately, there was no beer!
PROGRAM:
Today’s program was Connie Kowal, a local sports executive and consultant. Connie was teaching at Mundelein High School and sent out letters to local sports teams for a side job in sports. His best job was with the Cubs. Friday was the 37th anniversary of night baseball beginning at Wrigley Field. He also worked for the New Orleans Saints. Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans in 2005. The Saints helped out immensely.
He was asked about Ryan Pace with the Bears. The Trubisky draft killed Ryan Pace. The media is a different animal. Most never played. Despite a great work ethic that draft killed him. He said Vince McMahon was the best boss he had when working for the XFL. Vince was the nicest guy, a leader and always asked “What do you think?” He also worked with Jack Brickhouse who was a mentor, and a gamer. He also worked with Ryne Sandberg. He played effortlessly and trust was a big thing for him. Sandberg was injured and was asked to speak to a Junior Achievement Dinner. He went because “It was the right thing to do”.

FOOD PANTRY:
We raised $320 for the Food Pantry.

-Daily: $29 won by Kim Smith. Didn’t she win the big pot last week? What’s your secret Kim?
-Progressive: $106 (51 cards). Tom Gore drew the 6 of hearts. ROLLOVER!
