Call to Order: 

President Diana Taylor called the meeting to order.   We did the Pledge of Allegiance and

the prayer given by Jon Robb.  No song.

-Tony Collins said his son’s robotics team won their division and was 2^nd in state.  Now they go to world competition.

-Greg Hill – Announced that Tom Zengeler has agreed to become the President Elect next year for a full slate.

 

Fun and Frolics:  Rich Shoeneman conducted a challenging game of having members from each table toss a ping pong ball in a cup of water in rotation for 3 minutes.  Most good tosses (12) at Doug Fendon’s table won.

 

Speaker  Robert Biconic of Senior Helpers talked about their group of people who help those afflicted with Alzheimer’s and dementia through their disease.  Diagnosis is critical and early treatment/care is necessary.  Dementia is a decline in mental ability severe enough to interfere with daily life and has become an epidemic.  Alzheimer’s/Dementia disease has exploded 68% between 2000-2010 and is the 6^th leading cause of death in the U.S, costing $259B.  Robert discussed signs of dementia as compared to normal aging forgetfulness and ways to help prevent cognitive loss, such as exercise, eat well, socialize, being spiritual, get adequate sleep, control cholesterol and BP, and drink in moderation.  Their organization trains and provides senior helpers as in-home paid caregivers.  There are 6 levels of training from emerald to diamond level and make $26/hour for 4 hours a day.  Robert also discussed what to do if anyone has a Senior Gem in their family who needs care and provided a pamphlet and his slide presentation for all members. 

 

Raffle:  $22 in the daily was won by Peggy Freeze.  Peggy also won the draw for the progressive but did not win.
