BULLETIN – August 7, 2024

Jon Robb opened the meeting without the bell, Ron Lapins gave the Pledge, Greeter Patricia Bleck led us in prayer, and Dennis Kratohwil helped us through the Marine Corps Hymn in honor of Purple Heart Day.

 

-Elliot Pinsel bragged that his oldest took the bar exam, His middle boy moved to Wrigleyville, and Bacon Boy is now 20, 6 foot 220 pounds, and leaving for college Thursday. Bacon is the new wonder food!

-Tom Gore was visiting Cincinnati and watched the Cubs lose to the Reds.

-Doug Fendon just returned from visiting his daughter, son in law and his 2 grandchildren. Doug is tired!

-51 years ago, Bob Zamor and his wife went on a camping trip for their honeymoon. This year they celebrated their 51^stanniversary at 8700 feet on Pikes Peak!

 

Birthdays: Dennis Kratohwil – 8/16, Bob Zamor – 8/18, Tim Dempsey – 8/22, Glenn Garlick – 8/25.

Anniversaries: Jim & Jane Curtis – 54 years, Dave and Lorraine Potts – 54 years, Bob & Nancy Zamor – 51 years, Rich and Margaret Babjak – 33 years. 

 

-Bill Rickert needs nominees for the Service Above Self Award.

-Patricia Bleck told us about an upcoming service project at Given Kind on 8/19 from 1 to 3. See Patricia for details and to sign up.

 

Rick Mittelman gave us a truth or fiction quiz.

 

Today’s program was the fundraiser for 2025. We gave out 37 grants to local charities totaling $101,000 and we put funds into reserve. Overall, the Club has given $2.6 million to charities. The current model with Second City is the most productive and least expensive of all our fundraisers. Both of the last 2 programs were done with only a few members doing most of the work.

The next event will be March 8, 2025. We need new sponsors. Jim Curtis handled sponsors. People need to call on current sponsors and potential partners. We need volunteers to review the program and serve on a sponsor committee. The brochure needs to be edited and we need to develop a program of sponsor recognition.

Second City and LHS as the venue are set. Finns is set for the after party. The seating chart and pricing need to be adjusted. A plan for the balcony should be developed. Howard will be out of town when the event takes place. An event committee should be in place with a chairman.

All print materials need to be designed. This includes banners, a playbill, logo and tickets. Posters for the event need to be designed. This requires the participating restaurants to be identified and secured. Do we need more or fewer restaurants?

We need to expand our outreach. The contact list needs to be expanded. Video clips from celebrities need to be produced. We can cross promote from Finns, Austins, Centre Club, Mainstreet, Chamber, LHS and Libertyville. Patricia has a Facebook plan. Add Instagram and X. Use OneCause system for texts. Use Bomb Bomb system for emails.

One Cause system is in place.

Silent auction will need more items. Centre Club will be the drop site. We must learn how to operate the auction from the OneCause system. Consignment items need to be selected and fit into the auction.

The week of the event: Friday pick up rental chairs and deliver them to LHS along with signage. Saturday will be the day of the event with various jobs. Sunday we will close out the auction. Monday pick up all items at LHS and return them.

In summary, we need more members to step up and make the event a success!

 

-Daily: $32 won by Tom Zengler who donated his winnings to the Food Pantry.

-Progressive: $543 (30 cards). Elliot Pinsel drew the queen of hearts. Wrong raffle! ROLLOVER!

We raised $371 for the Food Pantry.
