President Rich Schoeneman presided over this week’s meeting, and we opened with a pledge and a prayer.  

 

 

Three of Tom Zengeler’s children graduated this spring.  One from Vassar College, one from Southern Illinois and one from Lake Forest Academy.

 

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

We received thank you notes from Mothers Trust and from Honor Flight Chicago.

 

Howard Jaffe reminded us that the Rotary Foundation year is about to end and urged people to contribute before then.

 

This week we have there club members marking Rotary anniversaries. Pat Hart completed 28 years, Scott Hezner wrapped up 31 years, and Dave Potts led the pack with 33 years.  Time flies when you are having fun.

 

The next club board meeting will be on June 15 at 5:00 p.m.

 

Those who were lucky enough to attend the Rotary district conference two weeks ago report that Scott Hezner made a brilliant presentation on vocational scholarships.

 

 

Our Best Fun & Frolic contest will end on June 15, so think about who you will be voting for when we select an individual to receive this coveted award.

 

Robin O’Connor says she has gotten a number of volunteers for her project to raise money for Rotary by assisting with this month’s election, but she could still use a few more.

 

Diana Servos posed a question about the number of feet that different farm animals have. However, it became confusing when the answer exceeded the number of toes most of us had to count on.

 

 

Today we presented checks to eleven charities who were beneficiaries of our fund raising efforts.

 

The recipients were:

 

Pads of Lake County which helps people experiencing homelessness.

 

Lake County Haven, an organization which provides temporary shelter to women in crisis and frequently their children as well.

 

Beacon Place the operator of a neighborhood community center in Waukegan, IL with programs to empower children and families.

 

Libertyville High School Star Swim Team. The Star Team helps approximately 30 disabled students prepare for Special Olympics competitions.

 

Libertyville High School Interact. Interact is a high school student service club sponsored by Rotary.

 

Libertyville Senior Center, which is a local organization providing numerous activities for seniors.

 

Weiss Scholarship Foundation, an organization providing scholarships for high school students in Kenya, where it is difficult for a person to go this far in school.  One of their beneficiaries is about to begin studying at Elmhurst University.

 

Libertyville High School Best Buddies, which is a large club at the high school providing activities for disabled students.

 

Career Resource Center, an organization offering resources for people in career transition, including counseling and assistance in writing resumes and practicing interview skills.

 

GLASA, which initiates sports opportunities for athletes with physical disabilities.

 

Libertyville High School Top Cats. This is another student organization dedicated to helping those in need.  In this case their mission is to mentor and tutor at boys and girls clubs in the area.

 

 

This week Steve Risley was the holder of the first ticket drawn, and being a rather conservative type of guy, the retired banker chose to take $25.00 weekly prize. Scott Hezner then went for the big humongous $469.00 progressive pot, but he failed to pull the Ace of Spades out of the 38 remaining cards.

 

This week we collected $269.00 when we passed the hat for the food pantry.
